Yeah, very little scoped handgun experience. A while back I put a gently used Leupold 2x on a SS 44mag Ruger SBHH. I worked up loads and then a friend borrowed it ! Ok, so tomorrow I'll head to his house, same friend, to see what appropriate scopes he is sitting on. He said there were 2-3 pistol scopes there. I gotta admit, when I've shot handguns with scopes, have always thought a dose of dramamine might be wise. More power may not be wise for me. A variable maybe ? I'm still a bit confused on the muzzle brake thingy. T.C's website not showing and searches there and at SSK not helpful or i'm doing something wrong. But, scope first and I'll call TC or SSK if I have to. Without a part number or more knowledge of, hard to go the Brownell's route. Anybody out there just plain sitting on one ? All I know is the threads at the muzzle are I.D. No idea if Super 14 44mag barrel came from TC that way, or if who reamed chamber to 430 JDJ did the threading. When digging for scopes, will keep an eye peeled for the brake. Fingers crossed, hard to type that way.. Bula

Yes, will see noon today. Will try to pick what is most appropriate for the 430 JDJ, as it would be likely to have been bought for it. My friend was too far down health-wise to communicate well when I was there, given the gun. The step son, also a friend contacted me to say come over again, the family would like me to have a 45 Colt barrel to the Contender and there are other things I will buy. Asked him to be on the look out for the muzzle brake, mount/rings/scope too.

Used Leupold 2x and Bushnell 2-6X's are out there. Beware, though, of Bushnell's useless "Warranty"

Thanks for the warning, was not aware of Bushnells failings.

My personal heavy recoiling TC off hand shooting position is right hand on the grip, left hand on the forearm. This is NOT to hold the little beast like a rifle. The left hand holds the forearm and pulls forward. The right hand on the grip pulls to the rear. FWIW we transitioned this to the 14 inch guns that aren't shotguns but shoot 12 gauge shotshells. Works there too.

I understand, applying a tension. Will consider, try. Open mind thing.

I've had a Simmons 4x scope on my .416 JDJ since 1999. Sort of expected it to fail at some point, but it's still fine after hundreds of rounds. As others had mentioned, note the brake and Pachmyr grip. The bottom barrel is in 8mm JDJ (another hard kicker) -Lee www.singleactions.com "Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

So am back home to NE Ohio. No luck on a handgun scope or the T'SOB 3 ring set-up was hoping for. There was a 45 Colt barrel I was given and ammo, components and dies. I left money for 6-8 lbs of powder, about 1300 primers, a few manuals, 3 bricks of 22 and 22mag., etc..Wow ! A lot of etc.. Oh, an Ultra Dot and rings. The adventure continues.

Hey Lee, does that muzzle brake screw off or machined into the barrel ? From manufacturer or ?

Hey Lee, does that muzzle brake screw off or machined into the barrel ? From manufacturer or ? That's a SSK Arrestor brake. This one doesn't screw on. It was machined from the barrel blank. And with 400 grain Hornadys going almost 1,800 fps, I'm glad it doesn't come off. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Oh, an Ultra Dot and rings. Don't know what range you plan working at but some real good performance can be had at 100yd +/- with one of those. Easily as tough as a good scope as well.

Thanks guys. Yes, believe the Ultra Dot is what Max and others have on BIG boomers for a reason.

I have had an old Tasco Pro Point on my 45-70 with a 12 in barrel for 25+ years with no problems at all. Bigger dot than I like but it has held up to the grind! Ultra dots seem bullet proof for me also.

I shoot the bigguns frequently and have found Dave Dolan furniture superior to Pachmayr in recoil dissipation. I've made some modeled after his design and use 'em on my 444.
