After 62 pages of enlightenment I had to become a member here. I have always been a pistol fan and I will be getting a couple of these beautiful grip frames for my Blackhawks! I have been searching for some Bisley grips and these look like they will fit the bill.

When it comes to grip frames, Ronnie's just like our own infomercial, "But wait! There's more!".

Thanks man! Which of these increases roll the most? Or would that be another design? I find roll soaks up recoil well. Thanks again!

Thanks again! ***** Erratic in-barrel recoil ruins my chance for accuracy with the Freedom Arms M-97 in .45 Colt. Talking same loads, the jolt starts before bullet departure. Roll of the M-97 back strap is so immediate I know I won’t do well. Recoil sensation and accuracy is better with Ruger Blackhawk, SBH, and Bisley grip frames. To realize accuracy----and hand preservation----from an M-97 .45 Colt, I would need a Ronnie Wells grip frame. None of the RWGR configurations I’ve tried or whittled on scatter shots, or beat my hand. David Bradshaw

I have a 5-1/2" NM Flattop Blackhawk in 44 special. I would love to put a brass #5 grip frame on it. The problem is, my gun is not a Bisley model. Would it be foolish to use a normal hammer or SBH hammer with the #5 grip frame?? I think the answer is yes and if so I will think hard about the dealer grip frame but I just really love the look of the #5.
Any input is appreciated.

I'm a fan of the Bisley hammer, if you can change the frame you could swap the hammer as well. Really it's all personal preference.

The Bisley hammer is cute to look at, but the sbh hammer is more practical. It clears gloves if you wear them, comes under your off hand thumb better without changing your grip for quick follow up shots, plus, unlike the Bisley hammer, I have never seen a sbh hammer rollback under recoil and bite your hand. That said, talk to Ronnie Wells. He's developed a hybrid hammer that keeps a Bisley profile but gives more recoil clearance and cocks smooth with the off thumd.

Would it be foolish to use a normal hammer or SBH hammer with the #5 grip frame?? I think the answer is yes and if so I will think hard about the dealer grip frame but I just really love the look of the #5. Any input is appreciated. First and foremost. The only thing with a Ruger single action that would be silly or foolish would be not enjoying your creation Aesthetically or not getting what you desire....... It has been said many times over on this thread, (Ruger SAs are the mr potato head of sixguns.) There is a place for all hammers, all triggers, Trigger guards and all shapes of grip frames. Preference is the key. You cannot find your true preference with out trying everything. First pick out what looks cool to you. Try It. I mean put some bullets down range and try to hit your target. Next Tweak and massage to meet your need. Take critism and opinion in to account but understand what turns some one else on is there own opinion and may not be the same for you. Your hand size and shape is everything. The Bisley Hammer turns a lot of people on including me. I dont think its cute. I think its plum dam sexy. However as Wayne stated if you hand is to large or fat like mine, It might bite you. And a lot of us have experienced that. That being said , I have a customer with a PJ Junior on a 500 Linebaugh. It works great for him. I have a 500 Linebaugh with a Super Blackhawk hammer on it with a 5 and a half incher on it and it will gut you like a fish with my full power 525s in it. I have a 50 special with a standard tall blackhawk hammer on it just for that reason. It is very light so it works better with a tall hammer. The number 5 works great with any hammer, it just may look odd with a non Bisley hammer to some people. There are to many variables to say one or the other will or wont work. 44 special is a pussy cat to me because im used to creating mini Howitzer Powered hand cannons. However as i have gotten older i am loving me some 44 special. I find it can be loaded to what ever most people need. And it is a pleasure to shoot. A keith Number 5 on a 454 on up with a bisley hammer just will not work for me. My hand is just to big and fat and i cant hang on to it without galging a trench out the back of my hand even if it was hammer less. That is the reason i designed the Wells 9. Its a half inch longer and my two bottom fingers dont hang off the bottom. It looks just like a #5, just bigger. K5s look great with either bisley or Super blackie wide spurs. But thats just my opinion. The Hammer Wayne is referring to was designed for the Bradshaw but will give another 1/8 inch of clearance. It will work very well on the Hager BB5 as well. Figure out what works for you man. If i can help, give me a hollar. I dont always Know much about grip Frames for Rugers, but i did stay at a holiday inn last night. Hahaha. call me Anytime im always here just maybe a little noisy. Leave a message i will call ya back. Ronnie 832-581-3901
