Reflex, you got a profile shot of that bad larry? This was before final fitting. I can tell you it is the most comfortable grip frame I have ever felt on a Ruger. We shot some stuff over 1000ftlbs with it un finished and you can't believe how much difference 4° makes. It redirects the recoil before the gun starts reward. When it comes back it is going on some heavy hitters to see what it does to felt recoil.

Wayne the 45 Ronnie Stupid is a 460 case shortened to 1" .600 like the maxi in a maximum frame. The 45 Ronnie Super Stupid is a 500 Linebaugh length case 1".425 knecked down to 45 for use in a standard frame. i start with a chopped up 348 winchester case so i can get enough length after knecking down. And it is truly stupid. I have a 44 version that fermin absolutely loves. R

Ronnie - thought I was the only one goofy enough to squeeze down a .500 Linebaugh. My .450 Bonecrusher is similar. It's a 1.40" case necked to 0.458". The shoulder is set at 30 degrees. Had no clue if it would post decent numbers when I built it. But it'll do 1,700+ fps with a 350 gr slug. Pressure is software estimated @ 40,000 PSI. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

We only ever built one .450 Bonecrusher. It has probably been 8 or 9 years since I fired it. I really need to dig it out of the safe this summer. Once Ronnie gets around to doing stainless, my Bonecrusher will get one. Probably the Bradshaw Bisley. As for it in a lever gun, Model 92's aren't big enough to handle the round. Winchester 1886's and Marlin 1895's could, but at that point you may as well do a .450 Alaskan. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Title of this Lee Martin thread, Brass Grip Frames by Ronnie Wells, does not prevent discussion of other material, namely carbon and stainless steel. Bill Ruger was at the top of the class in joining traditional firearms tastes to evolving disciplines. Brass in firearms making must predate iron, and certainly steel, and up through the Civil War brass offered major benefits. It should have been easy, or, as Bill Ruger would say, “a lateral move” to fashion brass gip frames for his single actions. Instead, it was a headache. It took me hearing, decades later, from Ronnie Wells an explanation for Ruger’s obstacles in offering a brass grip frame option, as well as just selling an unfinished brass grip frame separately.
I was told at the Ruger factory in Southport that Sturm, Ruger quit offering its brass Super Blackhawk grip frame----a.k.a. Dragoon----because of complaints of flaws from customers. Bill got sick of out and scrapped two barrels of brass grip frames. After that, people wanted them. Due to differentials in polishing behavior and contamination of steel-to-be-blued with brass particulate, it is laborious to produce a brass grip frame to a steel frame revolver. As for brass, it resists smooth complete flow into a mold; so much has to be right to avoid voids.
Astride his passion for sixguns, Ronnie Wells brings his high-end machining talent and high-end computer talent to start with a block of BILLET BRASS and Michelangelo-away everything that is not a grip frame. Ultimately, Ronnie’s talent aims at the HUMAN HAND.... to improve outcome on target while conserving the shooter’s anatomy to enjoy marksmanship for years to come. As a veteran of more than a little recoil over the years, I practice CONSERVATION of ANATOMY every day, in every way possible. Short of becoming a librarian.
Major events occur with the Ronnie Wells Grip Frame 1) Protect hand & elbow. 2) Contour GRIP FRAME to compliment hand. 3) Cut SCALES precisely to grip frame. 4) Program remembers events #2 & 3, to repeat on demand as desired. 5) Precision, repeatability, adjustability utterly unavailable in any other manufacturing process. 6) Dedicated, experienced shooter with direct knowledge of anatomy of the hand at the helm.
Brass, which turned an aesthetic re-discovery for Bill Ruger into a manufacturing headache, becomes throughRonnie Wells’ process, a ticket to beautiful gun making and advanced function.
Stainless When I was first invited to board this train I saw brass----as whittled by Ronnie----as a developmental pattern for stainless. Not as an end product on a stainless revolver. Once I live with & tuned the Bradshaw Bisley to the Ruger 03, the beauty just grew and grew. Eventually there may be a brass grip frame on the first .357 Maximum to come off the production line. We know brass on blue is beautiful.
Unlike a Ruger investment cast grip frame, a Ronnie Wells grip frame in stainless is machined from billet, which cuts slower than brass. Brass and steel must not cross-contaminate, so machine and hardware setup must be clean as an operating room. Thus, you don’t just switch from the brass to stainless for a few pieces. David Bradshaw
