I don't know what the year ranges or differences might be. I'm guessing the F model is more common? Well, the F being newer there may be more of them out there but the E was a staple for years. Just found a ratty ole 228E at fleabay and paid more than it was worth (especially with shipping and tax). Thing is, this is on top of it and I need it to complete my 228B restoration: Will likely use the remainder of the fleabay lantern and the old vent for another LED conversion.

Vmaxsplat, it looks like you found a nice hat for the 2228B. Also looks like the lantern cleaned up nicely. We cooked breakfast for the grandkids on the coleman stoves Saturday morning. We had pancakes scrambled eggs and bacon. Made coffee on the single burner 502.

Thats awesome and likely a great memory for your grandkids. The ole 1941 228B lit it's first campsite in many years last night. It was assisted by my 1972 228F. This morning we had breakfast burritos cooked over the campfire in a Dutch oven, but the new 425C stove took care of our coffee and my wife's fried eggs and bacon. Fun times.

Well... I now know why the #228H appears to be used the least out of the bunch. Put a couple new mantles in place & added a small amount of fuel. When I began to build up some pressure, fuel started spraying out the bottom. I'm guessing it was set down on something sharp early in its life & has been collecting dust ever since. Too bad, it looks fairly nice. Perhaps LED's are in its future.

I think the "H" and later model founts may have some differences in the earlier units. Mike at oldcolemanparts.com can help you out.
