We used to have one of those heaters! If only a guy knew, he would have never gotten rid of the old pump lanterns, stoves and other old gear.

Any suggestions on preventive maintenance & techniques for bringing older Coleman lanterns & stoves back to life? I have a small dual fuel single burner stove & lantern. I've been casually looking for a two burner stove lately. They go quick at the local yard sales. Thanks. Probably the main issue with older Coleman stoves and lanterns is gunk in the fount (fuel tank) and pumps that need a replacement cup. The main thing I look for in a lantern that won't need a full refurbs is a clean fount interior.

I have an old Coleman lantern made in 1984 that I use for a standby if the power goes out. The only thing I did to update it was to install one of those flint sparkers in it so no match or outside source is needed to ignite it.
One important thing I learned about Coleman lanterns is that if you light one then move it to another place, never leave the bail in an upright position, otherwise the next time you pick it up by the bail, you will be setting it down very quickly !

A kind soul gave me a Wenzel kerosene lantern this week. It's a Chinese reproduction of the old Petromax from WW1 Germany. She lit right off after using the spectacular rapid preheater. Not Coleman Americana but a beautiful lantern just the same. ![](https://d28lcup14p4e72.cloudfront.net/50792/4762716/media_5d686fc1c04482.43692604_db33f7f97fed622dd284e4346725ed04133fe798.jpg)

Here's the old 228B I've been working on. Date codes back then weren't standardized but I think it was made in May 1941. Picked a couple lanterns, a 2-burner & a 3-burner stove over the last few days. The 2-burner is in fairly decent condition. The 3-burner, not so much.

Outstanding!
I sat out on the back listening to tunes last night to the light of a Coleman 228F and a chicom Petromax copy. Gotta fire em up regularly! Don't think the chicom light will make many burns (el cheapo), lol.

Found #200A, #220J & #413G the other day. Found #220F, #228H & the 3-burner stove today. I don't remember the model # on the 3-burner. There all a bit rough here & there, but look to be usable with some cleaning, mantles & a couple globes. The 3-burner is most likely a parts source. I have a "mini" dual-fuel back-pack type lantern & single burner (442?) stove that I bought in the early 90's.

Sounds like you got some stuff. I'm on the lookout for a nice 200a at some point myself. Right now the search is on for a 228b/c/d/e vent for my 228b restoration project. Been over on fleabay tonight. Sheesh.

I don't know what the year ranges or differences might be. I'm guessing the F model is more common?
