He's fairly far inland about 45 min south from my family still in Ocala, Florida. They are expecting 80-120mph sustained winds and 8-12" of rain. Miami and the east coast will bear the brunt of the storm.

Hey Craig and all. Dave and Fermin are correct, I'm smack dab in the middle of the state. I'm boarding up, fuel for the generator, plenty of food and water, chain saws and ammo. I live more on the country side of things. Hoping this thing keeps moving east. We don't have near the worries that Texas has with Harvey. There will be localized flooding but will dissipate quickly once the storm has past. One of the advantages of sugar sand. The folks on the coast will be in the stew though. Its been interesting watching the morons fighting over water. Apparently they don't understand that there is water still coming out of their taps and there are amazing containers that will hold that water indefinitely. Situations like these prove there is no shortage of idiots. Anyway I appreciate the thoughts and prayers again. Our own squawberryman lives but a few miles from me. He's a smart man and I'm sure he's making preparations as well. And I believe we have a few members that are closer to the coast where Irma is predicted to go. Will keep in touch as best I can. Thanks to all here. You are a blessing and continue to remember our folks in Texas. It's a trying time for many. My best to all of you. Paul

Word from family south of Tampa is gas stations running dry, and if you didn't buy it yesterday, too late on other things. Shelves empty and exits/entryways jammed.

This one looks like it's gonna be a hum dinger! But does anyone know what a hum dinger is? The euro model which has proven to be the most accurate has shifted the track a bit west which will take it almost up the spine of the peninsula. I'm thinking I might get a new roof out of the deal!

I'm really worried about all the people and all their property in the path of this ferocious storm. Just when we thought we saw the worst ever...

This one looks like it's gonna be a hum dinger! But does anyone know what a hum dinger is? A remarkable or outstanding person or thing of its kind. "a humdinger of a funny story" Origin : early 20th century (originally US): of unknown origin. Sorry, had to look it up.

I'm really worried about all the people and all their property in the path of this ferocious storm. Just when we thought we saw the worst ever... As you know I work in a retirement community. And of course it's mobile homes. What surprises me is the amount of these folks that are choosing to stay in these mobile homes. This thing will rip them trailers up like a sardine can.

My sister in the DR got through all right. The north side of the island got more wind and rain but the storm veered north so they weren't hit as hard as they might have been. There are in the south, near Santo Domingo.
Prayers for all the folks in the path of this storm. Hang in there, Paul! Just when we were actually looking at places to move to in the south.... both Texas and now Florida. Wow.

Paul and I just shared some text messages. They are working hard to make sure everything is as ready as it can be for the storm. Their preps are in place, but this Irma is unprecedented in size and fury so their preps will be put to the test.... Paul thinks they might get a new roof out of this! Keeping a sense of humor through it all. As Paul gives updates, I can relay the information here and post pics as they come in. I've been through a few cyclones in the south Pacific, but nothing of this magnitude. There's only so much plywood can do to protect a home when the force of the wind and waves can remove an entire building in a few seconds. Musician friends in Orlando had a massive shindig, a musical based on the music of Dan Fogelberg, scheduled in Nashville this weekend.... with investors and family and friends from Sweden and here in the US.... and the roads are so plugged with those fleeing Irma that they had to cancel their trip with the Red Carpet Grand Opening, the parties and dinners, etc. and so are hunkered down at home. They lost some tiles off their roof a few years back and I know were having a hard time getting insurance again. They have a piano worth more than some starter houses, so insurance is important to them... I'll keep y'all updated as I can. Sandra expects me to have all my reloading gear packed and put away by the time she gets home from work, hehehe....
