Ken, you're suppose to jump in here & help me so these guys don't gang up one me, plus that James has got such an accent, even on the forum that he's hard to understand sometimes. You need to show some of your larger kills again for these young guys to see! Also Ken, PM me who you Lion hunted with here in Idaho if you would, thanks!
Russ, James loves cast bullets now that I've sent him some, he'll start seeing the light....maybe!

Dick, Darl Allred, Sawtooth Wilderness Outfitters, out of Garden Valley, Idaho. In Utah, Shawn Labrum, Uinta Range Guide Service, out of Roosevelt, Utah. As you've read in the past, I had successful and excellent hunts with both men.
I'm still hosted in Photobucket, and haven't looked for another (easy) host to change to, so photos are an annoying impossibility right now. Those interested, could check my albums on FB or PB for a few hunt photos.

For some of you newer members here on the forum my friend Ken O'Neil form NC has done some very interesting hunts in various parts of the world, mostly with Freedom Arms revolvers & taken some very big & interesting animals. He's a life long handgun hunter, competitor who flies a bit under the radar because he doesn't post as often as he should but trust me, if he says it, it's gospel, although I know he loves cast bullets almost as much as I do.....take over Ken & be nice!

Handgun (revolver) wise...... whats the smallest caliber suitable for a good kill shot on a buffalo?

well if you hit em right, a .22 would work.
lots of variables to that question but I would think under normal hunting conditions at a reasonable range with a proper load a .41 mag or above would be plenty. I'm sure the .357 would get it done too with a good cast boolit and a hunter who knows how to hit what he's aiming at. the bigger calibers sure do come in handy though when things don't go as planned. which they often don't when hunting.

Nice job James, you're kind of nasty with that 454! I think I see blood starting to come out of his nose as he's going down, you rocked him pretty hard. Tell me it was a cast bullet! Dick Who said I don`t like cast bullets?? Everything from .32 to .50 caliber and all points in between are on that table.. Many years ago I meet a bullet caster named Willard Hafler who made the bullets I shot from a 45 Colt Bisley to take out a decent boar. They were a Saeco #454 - 275 gr. SWC-GC sized to .452 using linotype... Just loaded 50 rounds of 357 using a 173 gr. Keith from Mt.Baldy and HS-6 powder for my 3 1/2" model 27. Will load up another 50 rounds using a 178 gr. SWC from Matts Bullets along with the same powder charge to see which shoots better from the M-27...... Let us not forget the .475 caliber "Holland Tunnel" hollow point that Sixshot and Zeus were kind enough to help me with. It was loaded under a charge of 13.0 grs of HS-6 that they choose to keep their testing equal... The bullet weighed 388.0 grs. and the recovered weight was 383.3 (after droping from a decent boar it killed) which was a loss of less then 5grs.

That's what you get when you use the correct alloy & don't get speed crazy, lots of expansion & very little weight loss...just like a fat girl eating a cheese burger!!

Gotta do something to keep up with you guys, you've been working me pretty hard! I've got several bullets like that, somebody show me a jacketed bullet that matches it & I'll dance with that "Sonic" girl if she wears Croc's!

Nothing is going to match it Dick............ just wait till you get the 357 Carbine mold so you can try it out.
