I have been through a number of different 9mms autos. When my agency went to the Beretta 9mm I pretty much devoted myself to mastering that very large for caliber platform. I carried it in a Milt Sparks IWB, in a fanny pack bag, and even knew one guy who carried his in his boot. It is by far the most reliable 9mm I have experience with. It would happily gobble up ammunition that would choke a Glock. All it asked was to have a bit of lube on it.
Later, the Glock got real popular when the FBI adopted it in the 40 caliber. At first, I really thought we had something. A auto pistol the size of a Colt Commander or Sig P220 that held twice the number of rounds. What most people do not know, is that the full charge 40 broke not only the Glocks but the Border Patrols Berettas too. The FBI solved it by carrying a load that was reduced by 10 percent. It was a very difficult platform to teach and shoot even though I worked hard to master it. An odd characteristic was the 40 Glock would lose weight as the magazine capacity eroded which increased the recoil signature. I much preferred the 9mm version and owned many a Glock 17, 19, and 26 over the years. This despite the fact that the Glock was pretty inaccurate compared to the Sig and Beretta platforms. My current example is a textured Glock 17 with a Trijicon RMR.
It is a rare thing when I get excited about a new auto pistol. I have looked at the FNs and while I like them I think there is a better option in the Sig P320 RX. I handled one the other day and dry fired it a bit and looked over the Romeo dot sight and made the mistake of sleeping on it. My angst was the fact that I was and am very invested in the Glock and Beretta platforms. To add the 320 I would have to dump one of the two and that would definitely be the Glock. When I came back the next day, my P320 RX had been sold. So I am in a holding pattern for now.
I have at least a 5 gallon bucket and probably quite a bit more of 9mm brass. I am in the process of shooting up my last 2 ammo cans of 9mm. I am going to try to rerun the Miha 357-125 and get myself a couple of 4 cavity molds. I will mess around with the alloy and see if I can find one I can cast a ton hollow point practice loads with. I am going to run all my 9mm brass through my Magma case conditioner to deal with any Glock swollen case base issues. This should be interesting. I wonder how many of you would be interested in this mold?
