A friend drove up from Utah today to do some shooting, I say Utah friend because this one doesn't fish! Anyway he had a whole trunk full of guns & he always wants me to shoot them. He's a single shot guy & told me today that he has 89 different barrels!! About 25 years ago I got him a job at Bullberry Barrel Works in Hurricane, Utah & he worked there for many years. I was also running them through the Chrono at the same time because he told me he had never clocked one. I started out with a 17 K Hornet, then a 20 BR, a 20 K Hornet, a 219 Donaldson Wasp, a 225 Winchester, a 257 JDJ & I can't remember the others. He did have one dark horse in the bunch, a scoped (not drilled & tapped) Buckeye 32 magnum, bingo! He said he couldn't hit anything with it & wondered if I wanted it. I almost feel bad but he's the one that priced it..... Anyway, here's a photo of me shooting the 257 JDJ at 34 yds through the Chrono, all the single shots were pretty much shooting into one hole at this distance even with the wind. You could call them mostly 1/4" groups or less, he took the targets. I was shooting off of my Bog Pod with PSR rest & the wind was moving me & it was also moving my target stand, twice it blew it over. I had some lead weights inside my Chrono to keep it from blowing off the table. The Buckeye 32 magnum that wouldn't shoot, it put 6 shots into 1.170" at 34 yds in a bad wind, toss out that one low shot & there's 5 shots under an inch at 34 yds. The Ground Squirrels are going to hate this gun! Dick

Dang Dick, My friends give me broke down lawn mowers and broken VCRs. Maybe I should move to Utah. Nice shooting. I sighted in a couple 22s today. I added 2dog sights a while back and just now got outside to sight them in. This is the one i sighted in last week. Here are the two i sighted in today. These groups were fired at 27 yards off a Bog Pod and PSR with Aguilla ammo. Dots are 1.5β.

The load of 8 grs of Unique & a 230 gr or 250 gr cast bullet has been a favorite of mine in the 41 magnum for over 50 years. Although the 250 gr bullet didn't come along until a bit later. Every single 41 I've ever owned has loved that combination but this newer Miha 210 gr HP hasn't shot that load very well in any of my 3 41 magnums. I think I need to bump up the load after getting almost exactly the same results in all 3 guns. A couple of days ago I hid behind one of our storage containers at the shooting range so I could get out of the wind to chronograph & try & shoot some 25 yds groups. First up was my old 3 screw shorty with the 210 because it was the last one I hadn't tried it in, same results! My 4" S&W & my 5 1/2" Bisley gave almost identical groups with this bullet so now I'll get the powder charge up a bit. Velocity was very good, even in the shorty, running over 1100 fps but as you see on the left target the groups just don't measure up to the 230 gr bullets. All 3 guns shoot the 230 gr solid from a Saeco mould & the 250 gr bullet from an LB mould much, much better. This gas checked 210 will shoot, I just haven't shot it enough. The group on the right is the same 8 grs of Unique with the 4" model 57 S&W with the first 2 shots going a bit high left so I dialed it down & right & ran 5 more & it clustered 5 into a nice tight group, just like the other 2 guns, no surprises. This load clocked 1002 fps. I wanted to test 3-4 more guns but my fingers said 23 degrees was too much to handle. I did run 5 125 gr powder coated cast through the clock with my Browning Hi Power just to check the speed. Dick

Finally got to shoot in the afternoon after turkey hunting in the morning for opening day. Was a chilly day, winds were whipping about so I mostly got out to throw some lead quick to satisfy the craving to do so. Took out the S&W M29-2, Ruger BSBH 480, Blackhawk 41 mag and SingleSix 32H&R Started with the 29-2 44 mag, wanted to test out some loads I was working on and found that the gun has a cylinder float issue that David troubleshot for me after I explained to him my findings. Only ended up shooting 15 rounds before putting it down for the day due to the issues that arose with the last 5 rounds. Next up was the 480 testing out Dick's famous 385 HP's. Man, they shot great! Only shot 10 rounds and was getting some sticky case extraction and noticed a lead ring in cylinder. Spoke to Fermin and am going to clean cylinder up real good and then try the same load again just seated further out, if that doesn't fix the lead ring issue, he's gunna take a look at the cylinder for me. Finally shot the SS 32H&R and man, am I in love with that cartridge and gun! It was so much fun to shoot, just enough pop to know it was more than a 22, but not enough to have to worry about the recoil. Ended up quickly sighting it in for 25 yards and moved on. Might try upping the powder charge a bit for the 100gr GT Bullets I was shooting as I felt they might have been a little slow since I had to move the sight up quite a bit from the bottom, even with Fermins front sight. And finally, the only picture of a target I took for the day was from the 41 mag. I've heard so much of this famed 8gr of Unique load, I knew I would have to try it under a 215 LSWCHP from GTBullets. Man, this gun just shined. After getting it on paper at 25 yards and figuring out the clicks on the big dot, we moved to the slightly smaller and shot 6 shots for group. Then, in the sense of good competition, my father and I had a "shoot off" for the best group and bragging rights. Drew two tiny little dots at the very top and bottom and shot 3 shots each. Well, I think his nerves got to him after he insisted I went first.. Pictured below is the target of the 41 mag and below that is the 41 mag and SS 32H&R with Fermins sight. The 41 now has factory Ruger grips, but the scope still resides for the moment since I bought it that way and I figured it would be a fun project to play with.

I have some company flying in for a few days next week & I wanted to do a little more testing with this Buckeye 32 magnum I just got from a friend. A couple of days ago I shot some of my standard ground squirrel loads in it just for a base line accuracy test & it shot great with the 4X scope that came mounted on it. This light load of 3 grs of WST has accounted for many, many hundreds of ground squirrels & several dozen grouse with the 105 gr cast bullet running around 950 or so in my Single Six. The first target you see was the 3 grs of WST from the Buckeye at 25 yds. Today, in spite of the snow & wind I wanted to up the horsepower a bit & see what this stronger Blackhawk frame would do with a little more fuel. Using new Starline cases, & Federal sp primers I started with 5 grs of Longshot with the same 105 gr powder coated SWC cast bullet. This is the plain base RCBS, cast quite soft & sized .313". I loaded 5 rounds of 5 grs & then 5 rounds of 5.5 grs of Longshot & ran to the range. I set up behind one of the storage containers to get out of the wind and ran the first 5 down range at 25 yds. They shot great, just a tick left so I gave it 2 clicks right & ran the next 5. The first shot as you can see went low, shot felt good but I'll shoot this again in good weather because the next 4 went in 1/2" at 25 yds. Too cold to set up the radar but it's going quite a bit faster than the WST load. A ground squirrels head is much smaller than a golf ball, they are going to be in big trouble out to 50 yds with this set up, unless it snowing & blowing. Don't use this load in a Single Six without working up to it, it might be too warm, 4.0 grs would be a good starting point. Dick

The only thing I have shot all week was a siding nail gun! That little teaching experience should wrap up today thank goodness! The house my friends own is 1 1/2β different in elevation from one end to the other and it is always a challenge to making new siding look good when you start that out of whack!

Just got back from the range where I chronoed a few rounds:
Winchester 130 38 Spl+P in a Kimber K6 2" chrono 7 feet from muzzle. 860fps avg for 5 shot string. Adverttised 950fps out of a 2" Hornady Critical Defense 165 grain flex tip 45 ACP out of a 3" Kahr CM45 922fps. This load feeds good and is very accurate in both of my Kahr 45s.

First day on the range in about two months, decided to shoot some "half" Tests: 5 rounds, 10 yards, 5 seconds. HK45 LEM, first time out with an LEM trigger and I love it. I need to send my USP Elite 45 to H&K for a LEM trigger now. This was my seventh run of the morning, 3.83 seconds from low ready, 230gr FMJ Federal: H&K USP Expert 9mm, this is a DA/SA gun and you can see where I dropped the DA shot on my third (and best) run; 4.13 seconds from low ready, 115gr Blazer brass. I should have dry-fired a bit after switching to this gun when I was done with the HK45 LEM. I need to get to the range more!

Took three guns to the range today, A Rossi 92 .45 Colt, a Henry 22 [just pure fun] and a M1 Tommy Gun that I put a new spring kit in. The Rossi is brand new, ran fine, pretty stiff action, but use will smooth that up. Good and fairly accurate. The Henry, what can I say, if you've shot one, you know how much fun they are. The Tommy Gun ran perfectly with the new reduced pull spring kit, which is what today's run was mostly to determine, it is definitely easier to cock and reliability did not suffer.

Took my No.1 7x57 for a stroll today at the range. Since Sierra and Hornady have both discontinued there 170-175gr round nose bullets, I have had to find a replacement bullet once my stock is gone. I am currently trying and hoping the Speer 160gr (flat base) Hot-Cor takes the cake. I first tried some IMR-4350 and had good results at 46.2gr and 2520fps average. Im hoping for a little more velocity so the next trial will be with Reloader 17 and or IMR-4064 with the same bullet. I usually take my 45 Bisley Vaquero anytime I go to the range and it was in tow today. So I burned up some old test loads at 25yds but shot strong hand only. I did surprisingly better than I thought I would. I had berm trash (plastic bottles) jumping around with most shots.
The 308 I took.....well thats one picky little vixen! Jury is still out on that thing!

I finally got to take the 2 Dogs 32-20 lightweight to an actual range yesterday. I later told him I want my money back. It only took down 5 steel pig targets in the first 6 shots. Surely my 61 year old diabetic eyes canβt be blamed for the miss!π
