Well...I shot my neglected 6.5" Blackhawk .41 Magnum. It's not that I dislike this revolver, but its 4 5/8" brother is far more easily carried. My hunting load for the shorter Blackhawk .41 is 16.0 gr. of AL2400 and a 225 gr. home-case SWC from an MP 41-258 mold. Velocity from the short barrel is 1269 fps and from the longer 1313 fps. There was heavy overcast this afternoon which made it really difficult for my 61 year old eyes to properly align the front sight on the 12" disk at 100 yds., hence the left-of-center point of impact. That aside, this was the best group I've ever fired at 100 yds. from a field position- I also shot the same load only with a 210 gr. cast SWC from an RCBS 41-210 mold. This bullet weighs 210 gr. and hit much lower/ Nevertheless it was a good group. also fired from a seated, backrested postion- As an aside, I used my 4 5/8" .41 week before last to clobber a good size boar with cast bullets-

I have a .22 rifle match coming up so took the peep sighted 416 Stevens and the scoped Savage MK2 out for some practice. I also took along a single six. a Contender .22 and a 2 in Taurus airweight .38 special. You may remember I ran a big piece of bamboo thru my middle finger knuckle about a month ago. Still apparently have a piece in there and the knuckle still has a sore on it. Pistol trigger guards ride right on that SORE knuckle so the .38 was NO FUN AT ALL!!!!

Thunder Five, precursor to the Judge. It's rattly and parkerized and kills sodas like it wants to.

More work on the hunting load for my grandson's 270 Winchester. Tested the Barnes 130 grain Vor-Tx factory load - planned to test more handloads but thunderstorms started rolling in and I had to cut things short. Bullet: Barnes VOR-TX 130 grain TTSX BT (Factory) Case: Norma 270 Winchester OAL: 3.200 (2.672 with Stoney Point/0.171 Jump to lands) Avg Vel: 3150 fps ES: 18 fps SD: 7 fps My handload with the same bullet (could not check velocity because of weather) Bullet: Barnes 130 grain TTSX BT (SKU 30276) Powder: Hodgdon H4381SC 58.0 grains Primer: CCI-200 Case: Sig Sauer 270 Winchester OAL: 3.215 (2.672 with Stoney Point/0.171 Jump to lands) If I don't get a deer this year it won't matter! Gifted the rifle to my Grandson and he used it to bag his first buck! Really proud of him...

That looks like really a nice blacktail, double throat patch too. Congrats to the young man.
