Shot some handloads in the M1 Garand. We got about 5" of fresh snow, and had range to myself. A great day! Once fired brass CCI #34 primers Sierra 150 gr FMJ BT IMR 4064 These are my first Garand handloads. I made sure primers were set a little below flush. All went well, and groups were on par with the average factory loads. Will have to spend a little more time working up to see if I can get them to tighten up a little. I feel like I'm the weaker part of equation...still getting comfortable with the rifle, as I don't shoot it much. Hopefully that will change now that I'm loading for it!

A while back I bought a 4" N frame model 57 S&W, I've been wanting anther one for a long time because my very first S&W back in 1967 was the very same thing. I had some handloads ready for this one that consisted of the long time favorite 230 gr Keith cast slug, powder coated & 7.5 grs of W231. One of my long time favorite loads in my Blackhawks & Bisleys has been 8 grs of Unique, this load is very similar. Driving down to the range I set up the plate rack in the deep snow & turned my truck so I could shoot out the window at 40 yds. It was cold so I didn't want to shoot from the benches, the warm truck wouldn't be nearly as steady but much more comfortable at 24 degrees! I had no idea where he sights were set but they looked to be about ok so I started on the far right plate & down it went, moved over to the next one, bingo, down it went. I stopped & took a couple of photo's & sent them to the guy who had sold me this very early pinned & recessed beauty, he liked them! I'd like to say I ran the other 4 plates but I missed twice to the left so I moved to a paper target at 20 yds. Yup, it was shooting left, so I adjusted for windage & then the plates got boring. Fun day with one of the all time classic six guns. I favor them over the model 29's, to me at least they are a better N frame. Dick

Just very slightly in the future here, we will be setting up and using our first chronograph. Noonish was the invite time. Eyes n ears on and no telling what might get shot today ! Friend bringing his Henry 45-70 and his Glock 10mm's. Thinking I'd like to know the velos on some of the M69 44mag loads, the 480's, been wondering if I'm Watusi ready.. etc..

It went ok. Young friend set it up, battery in and just put the "screen" together and on. We put a piece of cardboard over the top of the burn barrel and it was on ! I tried a few loads used in the Bulldog and was very happy, no surprises. He tried loads thru a Win 44mag and his Henry 45-70. Then he noticed the boxes of plastic hulls and bullets (in 44) on my loading bench and we detoured to playing with those and that's when we got in trouble. A hole appeared in my wife's favorite laundry basket..how can you have a "favorite" laundry basket ? A Gorilla tape first aid effort saved it's life and possibly ours. Women.. Another day, andnicer weather and we will pull the chrono out and play some more.

My son is home this week for spring break from college. We burned powder most of the day: his 9mm, .480 SBH Bisley, new to me Single 7 and one I hadn’t shot before today, a .41 mag three screw. I am really gonna like this .41. It shoots GREAT. Had the tumbler running all evening. Already have bullets cast and powder coated. Time to reload and repeat.

Took the SBH 10.5 44 mag out and shot some steel, I sure like that long barreled pistol. Also worked up some loads for my old Winchester 94 30-30, that old rifle has no bluing left, I bought it for a winter project. The thing shot so good I liked the old look and left it like it was. A hundred yards or so ringing steel, open sights whats not to like?

I went to the range today after work to try out a new to me .357 Bisley Blackhawk. I was quite impressed especially since it was the first time out with it. I also carried my 45 Bisley Vaquero, a Bisley Single Six, and a 45 Bisley Blackhawk. But the high light of my range trip was an older gentleman showing up and warning me he was about to shoot his Merkel 500 Nitro express. I said ok and watched. Later he asked me if I wanted to shoot it. I hesitated because of the recoil but I gave in.....WOW! It was awesome!!! It was more of a really hard shove. The ammo was Hornady 570gr DG solids.

Zog and I had a phone conversation this morning. Decided i better try the Mihec 45 Ruger only bullet in my 32twist five inch. Yes im aware the experts will tell me yhat long bullet in a slow twist wont work. Nineteen grains of wc 820(lot 47320) Remington 2 1/2, Starline cases. So if i was shooting at a Mexican horse thief across the draw at 342 lasered yards, he’d be hit on the second shot. First one was a little low but the other eleven went in. Also tried a cylinder of the same bullet but cup nose. They went right in there as well. Happy first day of spring

Went to an indoor range today with a friend who has a membership there...
Brought two guns...S&W 625-7PC 5" .45 ACP/AR and a probably refinished S&W 1917 with stock grips and a Tyler T-Grip...
Had not loaded any .45 Auto Rim up in years...made some up with 7.0 grains of Unique using: MeHic Mold 216 FP MeHic Mold 205 HP Lyman/Keith 240 for .45 AR 255 SWC
Loads proved safe in both guns but the recoil was a little "snappy" with the 1917 using the stock militay grips and T-Grip...
Ten yards DA the 625 cut a 11/12 one ragged hole group with the 216 FP....

I took my 1939 S&W K-22 Outdoorsman to the range, shooting plates. Bobby Tyler recently completed a full metal rstoration on the gun, and crafter a new taller front sight. It's a joy to shoot.

I did some load testing with the Single Seven today. The only bullet used was the 327 Mjolnir. So far Unique with .32 Mags and H110 with the .327 Fed are the front runners. Yes, I brought a favorite pipe too. The jacketed rounds are factory and didn’t get any love. Funny that 2400 did well at 25 yds but turned into buckshot at 50 yds.

Yesterday, I finally got to shoot my new to me Bisley .357mag with a 7 1/2” barrel. I tried the 357 carbine boolit from a Castboolits group buy over some H110. It showed some nice promise at the higher end charge. Im gonna bump up the powder charge the next go round. Played with my Bisley 45 Vaquero (large frame) some more and I noticed something funny, cant quite explain. But some shots I noticed the front sight blade would bounce up sending the shot high. Not sure if I need a lighter hammer spring or heavier hammer spring......or its me and I just need to shoot it more, lol I like the gun, it fun to shoot and not get abused. I recently picked up a blued Bisley Single Six. Boy I was impressed with its first trip to the range. Best I can tell its never been fired until now. I havent done anything to it yet other than clean it and take some measurements. Hope it get even better after a little triggerwork and a new base pin.

I did a dinner table trigger job and free spun the cylinder on this guy last night. Took it out today and tried 105yds on steel with Eley Club ammo. I shot 3 cylinders full and landed 14 of the 18 from a seated position with my hands between my knees. I was fighting a stiff 9 o’clock wind. Next thing is a new front sight. This one is factory and to wide.
