You answered your own question about the brass in the second post. They way that they have it set up there is that you get to keep the brass that you shoot out of "Shoot The Guns That Won The West" which are really just Ruger single actions. I was actually a little disappointed when I saw that because I already own the guns that they had there. I wanted to shoot something that I didn't already own. You can also buy that brass by the bag. When I went into the store I was told by them that Starline makes the brass for them with their head stamp on it. Back to your normal discussion about 45 Colt vs 45 LC.

Since Remington stopped producing the gov't length case with the .45 Colt headstamp there is no need for the long Colt designation. Keith said people who had never seen them had no way of knowing why. I never saw him write Long Colt.

No case marked Short Colt, nor Long Colt. Nothing new there.

The long and short of it:
"A long time ago, a short variant of the .45 Colt briefly existed".

There are none more blind than one who chooses not to see. Who suffers the greater handicap; he who refuses to see, or he who imagines that which does not exist?

My guess would be he who chooses to argue over learn. I have agreed, as have most, that the correct name is 45 Colt. But, if you go back there are those who explore where the "Long" originated and never said it was a correct or original name.
Then there were those who used derogatory words to interrupt the learning and history of the various things this fine cartridge has been called.
Any cartridge that has survived this long has probably been called any number of things. What we call the 38-40 and 44-40 were originally called the 38 WCF and 44 WCF. The moniker was changed to avoid confusion with other cartridges later.
The article link was posted to provide a possible origin, not to indicate correct or incorrect information.

So fine, but there was nothing new in that article. We all know there was a shorter version, but it was not called the .45 Short Colt was it? You brought it up again, not me, and then lay some silly old quote on me about being blind. Wow, so original. Sheesh!

Old quotes are like old cartridges. There's a lot to be learned about them if we're willing to learn.

Likely origin of misnomer seems quite evident. Only remaining mystery is why some persistently endeavor to legitimize and perpetuate said misnomer, long after the fact.
