Words have been changed and added to our language since day one. Wonder how many more words there are in a current Websters Dictionary now, compared to when the ink dried on his first ? There really is no right/wrong for the most part. When wifey with purse in hand heads for the front door, do you say..Wither dost thou go'est dearest ? More likely she'll get..don't bring the plastic home still smoking like last week !

....oddly the haters have no problem throwing around at will, all the while decrying "boolits". How does using proper English, and proper names make one a "hater", exactly?

My problem with "boolit", besides the fact that it represents a mental speed bump when reading a sentence, is that its purpose seems to be as a tool for bullet casters to assume moral superiority over we peasants that buy their "bullets". Mostly I just think it's silly.

I sit down to look through my newest copy of "Sixgun Cartridges and Loads" this morning.
On page 50 there is a caption of a cartridge he refers to as the "45 Colt (long case)"
I found that an interesting bit of information from one of the foremost revolver masters.
If there wasn't a short case, I wonder why Elmer Keith would specify the "long case" version.

Because Elmer though a great story teller, was for one thing a notoriously inept writer and speller, and for another he probably had nothing to do with photo captions. I often found little errors and typos in the captions written for some of the photos in my own gun articles. It happens all the time. Probably just like that Colt letter, the captions were likely written by some drone that didn't know beans about shooting.

Wow. Am inept writer huh?
Probably not as good as you but seemed to have a lot more to say that people actually cared about.
4 pages of this and then you take a shot at the Grand Ol' Man and call an anonymous employee of Colt a drone because it doesn't fit your story line...
Is it hard to breath up there?

Most reasons have a simple explanation. Castbullets.com was already taken for a website. In fact, if you go to that site now, they are offering to sell it. Castboolits.com simply used their noggin and use the "boolits" moniker as a cheap way to have their website without paying top dollar. I know some get bent out of shape by the name, and refuse to go to that site. Their loss. There is a lot of good information on that site and it is the only place to get MIHA molds.

Is it hard to breath up there? Hey lighten up! I said he was a great story teller and he was. But at least two very well known gun writers have said his actual writing was atrocious and needed very heavy editing to make it printable and in fact one of those writers said that in todays world, old EK would not make it to first base as a writer. Now you can get all butt hurt if you want to, but you are wasting your time. I don't compare myself to EK, never would. In fact I am not in the game anymore so who cares. I merely pointed out some facts about writing. If you don't like it, tough cookies.

Is it hard to breath up there? Jesus, take off those rose colored glasses. Keith wasn't much of a writer and it's well known that his editors had their work cut out for them. Keith made it because he had something of worth to contribute, even if he wasn't a proper writer. Any gunwriter who's been at it for very long will tell you that often people who don't know what the hell they're talking about either edit their words or write wonky captions. Fact is, Keith lived in a time when the .45Gov't cartridge was actually encountered. Although it's worthy of note that he did not write ".45 Long Colt". Just because he wrote it 80 friggin' years ago doesn't give creedence to the use of "Long" now, when people are using it to differentiate it from something entirely different. Yeah, I'd take a cheap shot at whatever marketing wizard decided to put ".45 Long Colt" in their literature or on a cartridge box. Yes, even manufacturers can screw up their own shit every once in a while. Curtis, are you getting your panties in a bunch because Reeder stamps his guns "Long" or are you just a liberal???

Well.....it looks like a certain someone is going to have to come up with a new handle!! Not sure it proves that 'Long Colt' is legit but I did say if anyone showed a Colt with Long Colt on it, that would be enough. And there it is,, I guess.

Might be a custom Colt with a replacement barrel as every New Frontier I've seen was stamped "Colt New Frontier S.A.A. .45". Mike might be trying to pull a fast one!

Now that you mention it, that's what I have always seen as well. All we see there is .45 Long Colt. Allright Mike! What gives? LOL!
