Early yesterday am, I quickly sized 10, 388 gr LBT LFN in .476" and loaded up 5 each, 8.5 gr Alliant 28/20 and 5 each 9 gr Alliant 28/20. These were air dropped just last Sunday. Gun in question is the new Ruger SS Bisley 480 Ruger with 4-5/8" barrel. Ran up on the hill behind my house to sight in my Kidd 10/22 and check the drops and 50, 75 and 100 in preparation for an upcoming NRL22 match on Saturday 18 Nov. Had to do it yesterday since we fiancee and I are headed to Kauai tomorrow to get married on the beach, Saturday 11/11 at 11:11. I also loaded two 255 gr LBT WFN for my 44 Special (same gun as before but in the special). I needed 2 more rounds to top of the 6-shot cylinder. While up on the hill, I have a "mitigation" doe mule deer tag (private land tag) and hope to drop a doe with the Special. On the way up, some other hunters were blocking the road with their vehicle as they had spotted the same does I hoped to get. They harvested 2 of the 4 does, both with 308 Win chambered rifles. One doe stood/ambled around, confused, after her cohorts hit the dirt. I worked within 75 yds but just could't get a shot before she skeedadlled. Once I sighted in the Kidd 10/22, I shot the 480 Ruger at 25 yds, sans my Oehler 35p, since the wind was blowing too hard for the Oehler to stay upright. 2.75" and 2" group. Likely 950'ish fps. I then helped the guys get their does down off the hill with my Tundra. Home by noon. Alan Congratulations on the upcoming wedding! Is there a special significance to the 11:11 them for you two? A past girlfriend, of ten years, used to always point it out on the clock whenever we were driving together. Drove me nuts after we broke up and I kept seeing it on the clock all the time.... "they say time heals all wounds, but it's driving me insane" is a line from a poem I wrote at work after another morning of mourning. On the 480, I worked up 370 grain loads with WW231 in increments of 8, 9, and 10 grains. 8 grains left real sooty cases, 9 grains was best and 10 grains was a little too much with sticky cases... although primers were still rounded so the sticky cases may have been from dirty chambers with the soot and all. IIRC, 9 grains gave me around 900 fps with my loads. ETA: Here's the link to some Taffin data on the 480 that I couldn't find last week: www.handloads.com/loaddata/taffin.asp?Caliber=480%20Ruger&Weight=370&type=Handgun&Order=Powder&Source=www.handloads.com/loaddata/taffin.asp?Caliber=480%20Ruger&Weight=All&type=Handgun&Order=Powder&Source=

Here's my original post, cut and pasted here, with my data with W231 and H108 with 370 grain bullets; and Blue Dot with the 385 grain Mihec hp.
480 Ruger fired in 7-1/2" SRH
Federal 150 large pistol primers used throughout...
1. 385 Mihec hp, power coat bullet from Dick/Sixshot over 15.0 grains Hercules Blue Dot, 1162 fps avg., ES = 33 fps. 1153 FPE. Shows promise, need to get back and shoot some groups.
2A. 370 RNFP, hi-tek coating, over 8.0 grains W231. 854 fps avg, ES=20 fps. Nice, easy shooting load. 599 FPE
2B. 370 RNFP/ 9.0 grains W231, 929 fps avg, ES=14 fps, 708 FPE. Still easy shooting, even with my arthritis. Cleaner burning than 2A, cases fall from cylinder.
2C. 370 RNFP/10.0 grains W231, 1023 fps avg, ES=40 fps, 860 FPE. Primers still look ok, but a couple cases were sticky on extraction. Not sure if that was because of dirty chambers or high pressure, but I'll stick with 9 grains W231.
3. 370 RNFP/16.0 H108. 869 fps avg, ES=46 fps, 620 FPE. A definite soft shooter. I'm thinking a magnum primer and another grain or 2 of powder to work up...

Not loading anything, just getting ready. Fair sized casting session today. Slow going, I usually am able to get two sets of blocks going. The NOE 45 colt mold is running fine. The other one has caused me grief. Get the mold to fill real nice and the base fins. Get the finning to stop and the damn thing doesn't fill worth a crap. I have tried it all. I have one recipe for alloy that works fine, it is just to hard for my likings. Going to get back after it. If I can get 2k of these 265WFn cast, that should keep me in business for a day or two. Got my Miha 357 mold a few days ago, cast up a couple hundred of the "Button HP's" & the large HP's mixed. So far I've only shot the Button Hp's as of today & they shot just fine. With a heavy load of 4227, a Remington 7 1/2 primer, Starline case & a gas checked bullet dropping at 175 grs the top load at 50 yds shot into 1 1/4". This was scoped but my shooting rest wasn't very good, I think this load will do better when I get it bagged a little better. Don't really want to say how much powder, these heavier charges of 4227 are over in some reloading manuals so it's best to work up with your own 357 Maximum. Mine was doing just fine & this bullet, even at a BHN of 8.5 was shooting great & I'm sure the velocity was well over 1500 fps, perhaps approaching 1600 fps. Didn't chronograph, it was too cold. Bullet Designer did a fine job with this one! I'll do a lot more testing on a warmer day & also shoot some of the big HP's to see how they do, should be interesting. Nice bullet!!

I loaded up about 30 muffin tins of wheel weight biscuits. Local shop that supplies tires to my big trucks gave me 15 gallons of weights and by the time I sorted it out I ended up with about 8 solid gallons of clip on weights and another 1/2 gallon stick ons which are mostly straight lead. There is probably over 2000 pounds of ingots in the shop do next up us get the Lee pot and done molds out to castnup some bullets.

Well Sunday was like Christmas. After Saturday's session and one mold not wanting to cooperate, I came home and opened one of the "toy boxes". Looked through what I was short on, 429421 was on the need list. Looked for another mold as I like to have an extra one on the hot plate if I am casting fast enough to need to let one cool down. If that happens I just get I a rythem and get after it. The 429421 is a 3-C. The extra was one I must have bought and forgotten about, an NOE 180WFN 35 caliber plain base, 4-C. Getting both of these on line at the same time will just eat a 20 lb pot of lead in no time. Ended up with a quart can of each. I mixed up a batch of alloy that I am not happy with and was trying to doctor it up some. I must have gotten some type ingots of some kind in the mix. I think I could cast with it at about 400 degrees. Been adding some dead soft to it.
Then to top that off I get home and there are two buckets of lead on the porch! One bucket is better than half full of home made shot, the other is over flowing with WW. Buddy had bought a shot maker years ago and never used it. Said he was tired of moving it around.
Deer season gets over, I need to get after loading a bunch from 17 Remington to 480 Ruger. Jeff

Got back early Sunday morning and just now seeing your question. Kauai was incredible. I've been to Oahu and Hawaii/Big Island. Loved the Big Island but really loved Kauai. So much more quiet and "island" like with a slower pace. 11:11 means "Twin Flames" or soul mates. This might explain it better. www.twinflamesoulmates.com/1111-twinflame-synchronicity.html.....and it's her thing..... Alan

Got some 380 cases I bought online churning in the tumbler with fresh media and a squirt of NuFinish. Going to let them cook for 6 hours or so, see if I can't get them shining!

After hunting on a new lease around Thanksgiving and noticing the long distances to walk - I started looking at my old Tikka T3 Lite 30-06 with renewed interest! The extra pounds on my beanfield rifles are a bit much when doing a long hike! Anyway, I worked up a good load with the Sierra 165 gr. Game King BTHP and plan to use it next time out... My chronograph batteries died so I'll have to make some more for testing. This load is over the Sierra maximum but I use higher capacity Norma brass vs. Federal (and I worked up!) Bullet: Sierra 165 gr. HPBT Game King Powder: IMR 4064 50.0 grs. Primer: Federal 210 Case: Norma LOAL: 3.188 (2.713 with Stoney Point) Eight shots at 100 yards. Went to the range today and made sure I had good batteries for the chronograph! Here are the results. Bullet: Sierra 165 gr. HPBT Game King Powder: IMR-4064 50.0 grs. Primer: Federal 210 Case: Norma LOAL: 3.188 (2.713 with Stoney Point) Avg. Velocity: 2730.07 fps Extreme Spread: 30.06 Standard Deviation: 11.09
