After browsing the 'what do you do for a living' thread it became obvious that there's a lot of interesting people here still working in their respective fields and those that've been there and done that. So I got curious as to what else you're possibly into besides guns and shooting?Personally, I took about a ten year hiatus from guns (strictly buying -- i've always shot) and am glad to be back, especially focusing primarily on SAs which were introduced to my by my Granddad. My other passions are watches and custom slip-joint knives and I must say my dollar goes much further with guns (especially in comparison to watches ). I've collected watches since I was a pre-teen and have gotten to the point where I can not only identify a watch across a crowded room but likely school the owner about everything regarding the piece (never done it as it can be disrespectful unless it's a rare piece which tips me off that the person is into watches)... As for knives, I've got a few… Other than that I still avidly fish and shoot but don't hunt near as much as I used to anymore… So what are your other hobbies and interests?

Was told way back that it you wanted to shoot and be good at it you didn't have time for anything else. That said, I like to cast bullets and reload! Of course I don't shoot like I did and will have to own up to gardening, Jeeps, motorcycles, and a recently discovered passion for old pickup trucks.

I'm a watch collector myself... also have a small collection of straight razors... got into collector cars, & building hotrods a couple years ago, when I bought my 1st ( a survivor condition 1938 Nash Lafayette )used to be really big into aquariums, I'd like to get mine all running again ( the house plants were always lush, when they had fish tank water ) honestly ( & perhaps a bit embarrassing ) I've become a bit of a "prepper" not full blown "doomsday prepper" but more an emergency prepper... we live on a 100 year old farm, been becoming "independent" on my meat sources, with a couple pigs, a pretty big chicken house with hens ( we're selling eggs now ) anyway... 100 year old farms are sponges for the wallet & time to fix up & keep functional... most of my spare time ( & money ) this summer was spent rebuilding the old chicken house BTW... SIERRA... can you spot the Bunn Special & as long as I have the attention of another avid collector... can you tell me anything about the solo watch pictured below ? big coin silver case with Garnets & Sapphires "gypsy" set in the case... the movement dates 1876, but it appears to not be an original movement... it's obviously unique, but I've yet to find anyone that can tell me what / whom it was made for... one of my guesses, is maybe as a piece made for a pal bearer for an important mans funeral ( the way the 6 stones are set ) but I really have no idea... with the silver ( white ) Garnets ( red ) & Sapphires ( blue ) it could be a centennial watch, being made roughly around 1876... but that movement could have been placed in the case, just to give that impression

I like all kinds of camping, messing around the woods and working with wood: cutting it, splitting it, stacking it, burning it, making furniture, building boats, sheds, shelters, tree houses... Generally though, I always thoroughly enjoy the challenge of maximization and minimization for optimization and doing more with less, simply making do, making it run.

Unfortunately, my knowledge of pocket watches lacks considerably otherwise I'd be able to help. Have you tried asking the folks at NAWCC?

yes... I've posted pics there as well... so you prefer wrist watches ? as you can see, I have less of them, I prefer "drivers" watches, & trench watches ( or at least early silver cased ) & also have 5-6 Lord Elgins... I actually bought a pretty rare West Bend wrist watch from a watch smith on NAWCC... it's a 21 jewel & has a painted dial, & ornate gold hands, the inside is nickel & damaskeened like a pocket watch from that era... I was looking, but don't have close up picture of it... it's the 3rd from the left on the bottom row in the group picture you might also notice all the extra long bands... I've got big wrists... ( helps with those magnum wheel guns ) most are wearing royal leather Speidel watch bands, that cost me $70.00 ish each, but I like wearing them when I go out a little dressed up most all my pocket watches have either sterling or coin silver cases... but I do like the Demi Hunter style & have several of them with brass cases as well... I have a good local watch smith, that will tackle just about anything, so I always have 2 or 3 at his place getting serviced ( cleaned & oiled, & new main springs when needed ) I have a swiss pocket watch with an alarm there right now ( 1st one like this, that my local guy has ever seen ) BTW... the Bunn Special is 4th from the left on the bottom row of pocket watches... I think it's a "real" railroad watch, as the case is sliver, it's lever set, & the case is in good mechanical shape, but the engraving is very worn...

Wrist watches ranging from early to modern Rolex, Tudor, Omega, Seiko divers, with military and pilots watches thrown in the mix. Wish I had as many of them as you do pocket watches. I've liquidated most of my collection now with the time consuming endeavor to find pristine birth year watches.

if you have some of the highly ornate skeletonized Omega's you should post a few pictures... I've always wanted to add one, but when you talked about your dollar going further with guns over watches... yup... I agree when you're talking Rolex or Omega especially... I'll add one of the ornate Omegas to my collection one of these years... it's really hard to imagine how ornate they are, unless you've looked at good high resolution pictures, or held one in your hands...
BTW... I got into the pocket watches, when I bought my 1st one as a "prop" for CAS... I knew nothing, a total newbie...I opened up the dust cover on my 16 size Illinois open face nickel case , & couldn't believe all the detail on the inside, where no one would ever see it... you can see where I've progressed from there
the 3rd one from the left, on the 3rd row down, is at my local repair guy right now... it's from the Ukraine, & is a blued steel & brass case ( not any bluing left though )( something more like a real working cowboy would have had ) so that will be my everyday CAS watch when I shoot classic cowboy class, when I get it back... it just needs a good cleaning, & the face pins were broken ( I think the dial was replaced, & didn't fit the movement that well... I'm just going to epoxy it in place ) & get it working well enough to keep the time of day while I'm shooting

In addition to guns, mostly handguns, and of them mostly SAs, I like knives, both custom folders and fighters, collecting and making holsters. Enjoy reading. My long guns run to lever actions and clssics like the MS Carbine and the Ruger #1. Collect anything to do with the Hollywood Western, both TV & Movie. One of my prizes is the Arvo Ojala custom rig worn by Robert Horton for a season on WAGON TRAIN. It has his name stamped in the belt lining.

Working on and cruising the San Juan Islands in my old Navy Whaleboat with my boy. Planning my next safari to Africa, been doing that since '84. Hope to go again next summer for trip 7. I like watches and clocks as well. Have a couple of US Navy deck clocks, one brass Seth Thomas and two Chelsea's, one brass, one bakelite. I have one cool Russian Molnija pocket watch with sailboat scene on face, wind up type. My daily wearer watch is a Seiko Diver type automatic, big and heavy. Have a couple other similar Pulsar's, one automatic, one battery.

Have a vintage Seamaster and two Constellation; one still needing repair which belonged to my Grandfather. Sold an early Speedmaster which is regret of mine. The closest thing I have to a pocket watch that you might appreciate is this modern Dornbluth I had custom ordered early last year which was delivered this year... It's Unitas based with a 50hr PR that hacks at 15 second intervals... Rhodium movement with gold engraving and some of best breguet blued hands I've seen. Here are some build photos from the maker: Grandfather's Constellation ref 168.005:

Very nice! I have an Omega pocket watch that belonged to my grandfather and I am attempting to find out more about it. While not a collector, I do love watches.

really nice... I love those cobalt blue hands... I have a couple on some of my older pocket watches... something similar to this is what I'm looking to add to my collection ( this Omega is one for sale on E-Bay right now ) love the detail, & those "onion" crowns I don't have many big clocks... one, a Czech coo-coo clock the only one I have purchased reciently ( we have a nautical theme in the basement ) I think maybe came off of a Chris Craft or ? it's a 6" brass ships wheel with a high quality German electro-mechanical movement that runs off a "C" battery the prepper in me, likes those mechanical watches & clocks... you know, for when that big EM Pulse knocks out everything electrical this is my Caravelle... I was told it's a newer, but rare, very high quality movement... I just think it looks cool... but it does keep excellent time
