Got a little bug in my bonnet for a single shot rifle.
Show me your High Walls, Low Walls, Rolling Blocks, No.1's, etc. etc.
I'd like some visual food for thought!
Thanks, -Mike

Not the greatest photos of the rifle but my Blaser K95 is my go-to gun. Just a sampling of NM big game that has fallen to it. The elk was killed with the 9.3X74R barrel, the oryx was killed with the .300 Win barrel and the antelope was killed with my .270 Win. barrel. Also have .222, .257 Wby and .30-06 & .243 stutzen barrels. Most accurate rifle I've ever owned and I'm "certified" when it comes to rifles as wekk as the single actions. At 6.5lbs scoped it is not for the faint of heart in the 9.3 with a 250gn bullet pushing 2500fps from the 26" barrel. I have Coopers and a bunch of High and Low walls but these guns are magical. Have 2 just in case.

I love my single shots... for me it started with Contenders... then a couple Enfield Martinis, then a couple Stevens Crackshots... then a Remington Rolling block, then a Navy Arms rolling block... would love a few more... low walls, high walls, & definitely need to add a Ruger #1 or #3 to the list as well... my rolling blocks... Remington #1 60's or 70's custom, rebuilt after I bought it... it came with awesome burled wood, I added an 8mm barrel ( for the faster twist rate ) & re-chambered in 32-40, & it now wears a 20X Unertl scope... my Navy Arms is chambered in 40-65, & wears a tall tang sight & front Globe my Martinis... 2 old tropical ( long levers ) one I call my safari rifle, chambered in 45-70, with a light weight octagon 458 Win Mag barrel, & a set of 3 leaf safari sights, the other is an old rebuild found in a cache of guns in a river outside Northfield MN ( may have been a stash of guns from the James gang anyway, that one we left with the patina the river gave it, & it was rebuilt in 50-70... then I recently bought carbine that was a forgery that was chambered in 303... that was re-proofed, & reworked, & chambered in 30-30

.22 Marciante Blue Streak done on a Falling Works action. My dad built it around 1996. The barrel is a Hart, the glass is 10x Unertl: The reamers and dies were all homemade: We haven’t shot it in a while but it would group. If I remember correctly Reloader 7 and Rubright bullets were capable of ¼ MOA. And sorry for the poor photos....they were done from scanned prints. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Lee,
You and your Dad just amaze me. I envision the two of you standing looking at a 4'X4' block of steel and asking each other "what shall we make today?".

Tell me a little about the Martini's and the Rolling Block on the bottom.
Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for a first single shot. I'm not a hunter. Just a short to medium range paper puncher. Probably in the 100 yard max neighborhood. I'm thinking something with just iron sights.
Something with easy to get reloading components would probably be best.

Martini's... top one was a "good" copy of an Enfield carbine ( at least externally ) my local retired builder buddy likes working on Martini's, & he was able to take the crude internals & make it shoot like a dream... it's probably a very good Kyber pass copy, but we reproofed it, & & it's now chambered in 30-30, & it shoots awesome... the 2 long levers... the one with the leaf sights ( top one in the pic with 2 ) is a tight gun, & is fitted with a light weight octagon barrel & is chambered in 45-70... the other with a cruder finish, was originally found in a river, in a rotted wooden box with a couple other rifles, & several revolvers... because of the age of the guns, it was speculated they could have even been placed there beside the river, as back up guns by the James gang... of course there is nothing that can substantiate that thought, but it makes an interesting story... but it's why we left the river patina on the receiver... the wood & all internal were junk, but the receiver was still useable... it's not as tight as the 45-70, but good enough to chamber in 50-70...
the lower rolling block is a newer Navy Arms rifle, chambered in 40-65, that I like to use for long range cowboy shoots...
