savit260 Nothing wrong with the .30 US Govt. A lot of game has fallen to the Krag & they do seem to handle cast bullets really well. I had a #3 200th year in .30-40 that I foolishly traded away. It liked cast bullets.

You guys are KILLIN' me ! Back in the late '60's the guy across the street's wife got him to clean the basement. He subcontracted to steve's basement cleaning service. He was the town drunk. Total business assets were , me, 8yrs old, and a radio flyer red wagon. Payment was whatever fit in my wagon.... I went home with 3 fishing rods, a tackle box, a railroad lantern, and a Remington #1 in .43 Spanish. Looooong barrel, 3 bands, if I remember correctly. Mom was horrified ! Hey, no ammo, relax Mom ! No durned bayonet though. Whats a boy gonna do with a musket and no sharp pointy thing I ask you ? Sold it for a 100 bucks even around '79 to pay for hunting licenses for Oh,Pa,Va.. Ah crap. Now, would love to make it a 45-70 and carbine it form here to there. Sigh. stevemb

I've had a 43 Spanish Rem RB for a few years now. Have about 75 rds for it which I load with a very nice 300 gr CB that is .339 Diameter. This ole thing will really shoot but we can't figure out why. The trigger is terrible and the sights are very crude, but you can hit a 200 yds swinger every shot with it. And so can everyone else that shoots it. Very fun gun.

I missed out on a nice rolling block in 43 Spanish last year. It was at the pawn shop in town and I foolishly let it sit for a week while collecting funds. Still looking for another with a good bore.

I kind of like the Rem rolling blocks, I think they are pretty neat rifles. Sharps wasn't the only rifle used to desimate the Bison either, the good old Remington was there too. The .50-70 has a nice ring to it.

Tek,
You can't just leave us hanging like that. Enquiring minds need to know! Gorgeous!
Sure enough, share some details with us. Did you do or have the work done? What did it start out as? How did you decide on the .444?
I bought a RB in .43 Spanish years ago to put away to have my Buffalo gun built. I ended up giving it away to a friend who needed it at a tough time in his life (and I never looked back - it ended up close to what I'd intended). But I've been on the lookout for a another reasonably priced project base for a while. There is one locally that appears to be a 1867 Danish gun.
Any advice?
Thanks

TCR IN 6.5x57R, No.1 in 243, Cadet in .310... the Mossberg SSI with its stock off is actually a 12ga. The two rollers live elsewhere now, sold to help pay for my Sharps. Looking back I kind of regret it a little, I miss the one and seems I enjoyed it more and shot it more than the Sharps. (Not to mention it costing me 1/6th what the Sharps did. Oh well. 50-90 On another interesting note is the advancement in technology. Not talking about the guns. The top 3 photos were taken with a digital camera a few years back. The last one, by far the best image quality wise, was taken last November in the woods with my cell phone. lol

A Remington Hepburn. I don't know who rebarreled it or when, but they made a little carbine out if it. Sure isn't "correct", but it is cool. It was 45-70, I reamed it to 45-90 for a couple reasons.

CAS (you are that CAS right..the one I know?) I have a '06 Mossberg SSI that I always thought to get extra barrels for...however, as you know, they quit making the darn things almost as soon as they made 'em...maybe a year at most. Would you know of a person or entity that would have some barrels laying around for purchase

(I dunno, seems today everyone knows me. lol Thats the second time today someone asked that.) I never really looked into the SSI. Truth is I never shot the thing. I bought it because I needed another shotgun like I needed a hole in the head. Especially since at the time I was 95% handgun hunting. I guess I bought it because it was a single shot. I took it to the range one time. Then that same night I took the stock off and cut it to fit a better recoil pad. Later that same night I found they changed the area I hunt to a rifle zone. 6-7(?) years later now I never fit the recoil pad and the stock is still off the gun. lol In shooting it I did notice sort of a variable lock up. Like depending on how firmly I closed the gun, I had two point of impact. If I slowyl closed it, or if I closed it swiftly. I always wondered if that had anything to do with the "temporary" halt in production.

I worked up a 180 gr CB load for mine....never really noticed this hitch you mentioned. However most of my targets are rocks 'n such at longer range but it does well on them, an I don't have to gut or drag them rocks. I'll keep looking...maybe I'll run across a barrel or two someday or just sell it an buy more revolvers.
