I grew up with German Shepherds. Wonderful dogs, and indeed, their energy is like a bottomless well. Very beautiful dog.

Getting some real good feedback. I should have been more specific in my use. These aren't just for reloading but for gunsmithing. Installing sights is a new trade I am up to, and my current calipers are not consistent. The Franklin Armory calipers I have are at least 20 years old, probably 30. They came from my brother who most likely got them from my dad. They work, but I'd like better consistency and accuracy.
That said, keep the experiences coming, this is very insightful and very much appreciated. I hadn't realized until now that a micrometer was not only so different but also seems to be more specific in its measurements.
The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

Hey Everyone,
For years, I've been using a Franklin Armory pair of calipers/micrometer and it's been fine. It's showing it's age and I have trouble getting consistent readings. So, I want to get something a little better. Seen some really nice ones for well over $100, but it may be worth it. What do you gentleman recommend?

They say .458" on the box, but Grizzly's website says .459". They worked just fine for me.

I've gad a .45-70 BFR since October. Mine really likes 405gr. hard cast from Cast Performance.

I run a 22 lbs. spring in my Glock 20 and my Smith & Wesson M&P. My RIA 1911 10mms have the stock 20 lbs. spring, and I just picked up an XD-m Elite in 10m. That I have yet to do any experimenting with.

With my single stage presses I charge all 50 cases in a reloading block then visually check them before adding bullets. With a progressive I place a light so I can visually check the powder level in each case, and I do. NEVER BE DISTRACTED, AND NEVER BE IN A RUSH WHEN RELOADING! This is EXACTLY what I do as well. I couldn't agree more on the importance of staying undistracted. Additionally, when using a a progressive, I weigh each round after I load. Too light or too heavy and I pull the bullet. Found a number of squibs this way.

Every time I read about the .327 Federal Magnum I am more and more impressed. Nice job!

I've never been a .40 S&W fan and have often voiced my criticisms of it. However, I never discounted its effectiveness or usefulness. It does exactly what it was designed to do. Period.
That said, the complete abandonment of it by so many as if it had leprecy has had me BAFFLED. Why? You lose only 1 or 2 rounds over its 9mm counterparts and it's reasonable to control. Other than preference, I never have an ill thing to say about it. I tell people I PREFER a .45 ACP, but the .40 is a solid round. It's all about what works for the individual.

But you did just cast them before an empty theater.
That troll got kicked off the bridge several days ago.
I guess I'm late to the party! Glad he got the boot. His query didn't sound serious, so I think he just wanted to be a jerk.

Have a friend who invited me to the gun range he shoot's large bore handguns at paper targets doesn't use them to hunt doesn't shoot at steel plates just paper. I was thinking to myself WHY ? What am I missing If there's one thing I've learned about forums it's how to spot a troll! You're right, buddy, it's all testosterone and machismo. Nothing more. We're just a bunch of toxically-masculine boys with tiny you-know-whats. People like you really get under my skin. Let me ask YOU something. WHY DO YOU CARE AT ALL WHAT HE SHOOTS?! Why does it bother you what someone else chooses to spend their time and money on? Seriously, why does it even cross your mind to be bothered? I watch people at the range show up with serious tactical gear. They're not LE or military, and there isn't a looming zombie apocalypse that I know of. But to each their own. If this is what they enjoy spending their time and money on, that's their business and it's perfectly fine by me. If I thought you were seriously asking and not just being a troll, I'd share my reasons for doing more-or-less the same as your friend. But I don't cast my pearls before swine.

Thanks, Lee. Thanks Mr. Bradshaw. I got outbid on GunBroker... for now. But this is some REALLY good information. Interestingly, Hawk Bullets has some 0.377" jacketed bullets that start at 180 grains, so there might be some options there. At least I have some more time to research and learn about casting my own bullets.

I am considering trying to pick one up, but I'm having a heck of a time locating bullets that are 220 grains or less.
Any ideas? Or is it time for me to learn how to cast my own bullets?
