Thanks! Those are the original sights that came on the rifle. I am now on my third (and hopefully final) set of sights for this buffalo rifle. I installed a mid range tang sight and a flip up combo front sight that can switch from a brass post to a black dot……

Something in my soul just gave a lurch when I saw that 3rd model Dragoon ! A little falling or rolling block carbine to go with ? Oh my. How about a High Wall (Uberti) in .45-70?

They are addicting! I have a trio of Pietta 1858's and a conversion cylinder in .45 Colt: I also have a Uberti 3rd Model Dragoon that has a conversion cylinder in .45 Colt:

I agree, after shooting the NV's, the original Vaquero's do seem huge. I have three of the OV's in .44 magnum: And I also have a pair of OBV's in .45 Colt:

Very nice! My 7-1/2" RBV, started out as a 4-5/8" Bisley model in .44 magnum. I found a 7-1/2" Vaquero .44 mag barrel and had that installed on it. I really love the feel and the balance of the longer barrel with the Bisley grip:

Great pictures mic214. Very nice NF and I really like the leather. I just got an EK#5 from Doc a few months ago, a birthday present from my wife. I couldn't be happier with it. I'm kind of spoiled now on holsters. I find myself on his site frequently trying to decide what to buy next or shopping the auction sites for vintage left handed leather. Congratulations on a nice Colt. Thanks! It was a tough choice, as all of Doc's holsters look so great. I think it will be the perfect rig for packing my NF. Between this holster and the grips from Robb, I think my NF will be outfitted quite nicely......

I just got back from the shop and I have the NF in hand. It does have a few small nicks here and there from handling and a very faint turn line, but other than that, it looks like it has hardly been shot or carried at all. There were no box or papers either, but this is going to be a shooter, so I am not concerned about not having those. I ordered a holster from Doc Barranti today. I ended up going with a No.5 rig. I tried the NF out in a couple of holsters that I had on hand for my 5-1/2" SBH and it actually fit pretty well. They will have to do until the rig from Doc shows up. I can't wait to get it out to the range!

mic214, I think Skeeter would approve. I miss his writings too. Thanks Frank! I am having a hard time choosing which model holster from Doc Barranti's shop. It's a toss up between the Threepersons or a No.5 holster. I am leaning towards the No.5 as that is what Bart Skelton had made to honor his dad and, for me, it would also give tribute to Elmer Keith. I just got word this morning that my NF has arrived at the post office in town, so I am eagerly awaiting a call from the local gun shop...

Look out! Ruger man that I am, those New Frontiers get addicting! Not a .44 but a .45, this is how it looks with stags: Hope you enjoy! Bob Wright Wow Bob, those are beauties! I will definitely post up a photo when I get the grip that Robb is graciously sending my way.....

Shoot me your address and I will send you a set of Colt eagle grips that are taking up space in the parts box. Robb Wow, that is so awesome! I really like the looks of the eagle grips on single actions and I think these will outfit my NF nicely..... That "Bar T" holster is a beauty! I will have to take a closer look at those on Doc's site... On another note, I have been trying to locate a date of manufacture on my NF. The serial number is 14111NF. I looked at the Colt site and also the "Proofhouse.com" site and neither one had a record of it. Anyone know where else I can look? Thanks, Mick

When I was a young shooter, I read everything ever written by Skeeter Skelton. Through his writings, I became enamored with the .44 Special. I also developed an affinity for the 5-1/2" barrel length, as like Skeeter, I think this is the perfect barrel length for packing when in the outback. While I have had numerous Ruger single actions over the years, I have always had a hankering for a real Colt Single Action revolver chambered in .44 Special. I have had my heart set on a Colt New Frontier and had resigned myself to getting one with a 7-1/2" barrel as those are the most prevalent for anywhere close to a decent price. While perusing the web the other day, I stumbled across my grail gun, A Colt New Frontier with a 5-1/2" barrel chambered in .44 Special for a fantastic price. The shop listed it as 95% and from the photos, it appears to me that they are spot on. I called them up and to my surprise, they still had it in the case. I bought it on the spot and I am hoping to have it in hand sometime next week. I am not a fan of the factory stocks, so I am on the search for a set of the black checkered eagle stocks as this will be a working gun. I may, as funds permit, get a set of elk stags for this beauty, which will be perfect for those Sunday evening BBQ's. I am also looking for the proper holster to carry this baby. Thanks to this site, I am leaning towards a Threepersons holster from Doc Barranti to carry this pistola out in the field. I am thinking Skeeter would approve......
