You've asked a good question... Even two "exact" copies don't shoot the same.. It is the nature of a complex mechanical system with virtually limitless variables that expells pieces of lead using cartridge that is again of virtually limitless variables. And we aren't even considering the nut pulling the trigger. Ask if a $3000+ custom Linebaugh/Bowen/Clements/etc should be expected to out perform a $1000 Reeder and I'll shout YES! Ask if it will and I'll have to say maybe yes, maybe no. Strap the guns into a Ransom rest to eliminate one significant variable and it will quickly become evident that with the appropriate ammo the shooter is the limiting factor, not the gun. All that said, Reeder's warranty is as good as a warranty gets.

You get what you pay for. Reeder's guns can best be described as semi-custom production guns. There are several things that most other makers do that Reeder does not believe in. Like lineboring and blocking the action. My perception is that a sixgun built by Linebaugh, Bowen, Clements, Stroh, Harton, etc. will have all the hand-built appeal and old world craftsmanship most shooters are looking for when having a custom gun built. While Reeder's work is more like something turned out on Pimp My Ride. Lots of "bling" but little substance.

LOL. +1 on what Stan said. and to quote CraigC "You get what you pay for" I believe that if the very best is wanted one must get someone like Mr.Bowen involved full well knowing both time and money are of little importance compared to perfection, I for one can't afford even one of those in my collection.

Two good prospectives from CraigC and Bigbores. Choices, choices, choices. The Dawgs has been after me for quite a while to shoot some paper with some of my stuff... After 20+ years of punching paper I tend to enjoy shooting clay birds and dirt clods on the berm much more. Guess I need to hang some paper to really put a quantitative perspective on these revolvers. You guys know we don't put 45/475/500 magnums in a Ransom Rest. Means that the nut behind the gun remains in the equation. Now.. explain one more time.. What is the thing that sticks up on the end of the barrel used for?

From what I understand and have read Reeder's guns are supposed to shoot darn well, very accurate. He does use something similar to a Taylor throat and I am sure that helps. I don't and won't own one but I suspect they shoot pretty darn close to what the others put out and likely as well as all but the finer shots are capable of, particulalry with the boomers. I am sure JT can speak to this given his experience with all of the makers wares both large bore and small.

I think that takes the cake for the prettiest Reeder custom I've seen. Nice gun.

I think if I was going to lay my money on the table and rolling the dice over who would make the most accurate revolver Freedom Arms would get the nod over any custom Ruger. Its just a closer to perfect platform to start with that Ruger frames are.
That having been said there is but a handful of guys here and anywhere who can truely get everything out of the gun, I know my factory Rugers shoot better than I do. I have a Freedom Arms gun that I love and I have a gun at Hartons shop that is really going to be a special one when finished. At some point you have to take a chance on a custom smith who you like, gets what you want the gun to turn out to be in the end, ansd see what happens in the end. They all make pretty accurate guns for your dollar today or they wont be in buisness long. And for what it is worth, while I am not a Reeder fan for several reasons his guns have the reputation for being accurate...

Uh, excuse me Bill, but when you turn Harton loose on your sixgun, there is nothing left to chance in the accuracy dept.
Now, for the nut on the trigger...well....
