;D Two good prospectives from CraigC and Bigbores. Choices, choices, choices. The Dawgs has been after me for quite a while to shoot some paper with some of my stuff... After 20+ years of punching paper I tend to enjoy shooting clay birds and dirt clods on the berm much more. Guess I need to hang some paper to really put a quantitative perspective on these revolvers. You guys know we don't put 45/475/500 magnums in a Ransom Rest. Means that the nut behind the gun remains in the equation. Now.. explain one more time.. What is the thing that sticks up on the end of the barrel used for? Well its SIMPLE then..............You need to send some iron to Lee or Whitworth........THEY apparently dont mind getting the shit kicked out of their hands!!!!!

Put my Reeder built 500SW on paper today. Just guessing at distant of 50-60 yards (100steps). shooting slightly down hill on a beautiful day using shooting tripod stick setup. Still getting slight vertical stringing but I'm getting use to the express sights. Biggest problem now is slowing down my shoots with them, they make me want to pull the trigger the second I have sight alinement. I think I still need more practice with them before I shoot any game. I'm getting use to the gun and ran almost 100 full power loads today without gloves. Here's a 8 round group I shoot before I started getting tired/ lazy.

38grs h-110 and a gas checked hardcast, real bullet weight is around 430GRs. out of my 8 3/8" smith I get 1600fps, 1640 out of my 7 1/2" BFR, I havn't crono'd the load using the 6" reeder yet but its got a tighter barrel gap then the other 2 guns.
I love Cats!

Does Reeder offer a plain blued finish? I would love to have this one made into a 5 shot 480 and keep everything else the same down to the tarnished grip frame. For that matter, he could simply cold blue the cylinder and barrel and I could do a bit of rubbing to distress it to match the cylinder frame. I know the simple answer is to call, but I hate to bother someone while they are trying to work on your revolvers...

Apparently the best kept secret in the gun business.....He builds what you ask for. ie. if you ask for no graphics you get no graphics.

My knuckles are back to normal. Never ceases to amaze me how many folks buy big guns, then either download the hell of 'em or turn them into safe squatters. Kinda like buying a Vette and never going faster than 70. -Lee www.singleactions.com

I hate braking things... I used to shoot loads above listed load data, sometimes it wouldn't hurt anything other times it would, Like a blown primer pocket can and sometimes will take out a primer pin. Getting back to cars I like to back them off also, I used to set the timing right up where it would pepper the plugs and gear the thing so the last 100 feet I would be right on the rev limiter, now I back the timing off sometime to less then 30deg total timing, run 4.10 gears with a 34" tires and throttle stop the carburetor back to 10.0s and only 135 miles ahour in the 1/4 mile, I went from braking rear ends and 400 trans almost monthly to only freshing them up yearly, I also went from replacing valve springs weekly and checking them every pass to replacing them yearly and checking them monthly. Guess I'm getting old.

Bigbores.....first off, I never get tired of seeing your Willys. That's a vicious looking ride. And I wasn't referring to you and reduced loads. I know you shoot a lot of big stuff. I'm talking about the guy that buys a 454, puts one box through it, then calls it quits. Or the guy that buys a 454 only to shoot factory 45 Colt. And like you, I never go higher than published maximums. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Thanks Lee, That car looks wilder then it drives, it will hook in a car-wash the way its step up these days. Back when it was running low 8s it was scary. I didn't think you were talking about me but I do understand people not wanting to shoot top end loads all the time, normal 45colt loads out of a 454 all the time is a little silly but I know someone that does just that.
