We got a new 4' culvert coupling for a burn ring at camp and it needed a couple of ventilation holes. I had my new Ruger 44 Special Flattop loaded with Skeeter's load, and said "Stand back, I got this". The first shot bounced off the ring and everybody laughed. I have never been so disappointed in a gun. I still have negative feelings towards that little gun. That was like the time I filled a groundhog up with 357 mag 135gr Speer gold dots shot out of a 6 inch 686 from about 30-40 yards away. It was hurting but still managed to walk away while I stood there stunned, I hit it at least 4 times. It was probably the biggest mini grizzly I ever shot at but it left me really questioning the effectiveness of a 357 self defense load.

ALSO THICK METAL AND/OR CONCRETE CULVERTS ARE NOT GOOD CANDIDATES FOR MAKING BULLET HOLES WITH MOST REVOLVER LOADS. You are right Rey, it was the load not the gun. It's not fair of me to blame the gun, but I think about that day every time I pick up the gun, even though I've killed two deer with it since then.

The bullet was probably exiting before expanding. They just aren't thick enough for the bullet to expand in the milliseconds it's in smaller animals. Slow the same bullet down 200fps and they will look like they exploded.

Squirrels, rock chucks, badger with 44 Special and a moose with 41 RedHawk. Lately I’ve just shot the breeze!

Never shot anything more than deer with a handgun, but did manage a 9.5" brown bear with a pre 64 Winchester in 375.
