AND CAP PRICES ARE !!!!!!!!!!! THE LAST 1,000 COST ME 8 CENTS APIECE. NO MORE CHEAP SHOOTING WITH .22s OR PERCUSSION SIXGUNS. My daughter and I shoot together. She shoots $40 worth of .22s while I shoot $40 worth of percussion. $20 gas to travel 45 mile round trip then $25 for lunch makes a $125 outing.

Yes...it's insane. I was well prepped for this season but I've also added numerous calibers during this time. That's a challenge.

Oh to have had a video camera back in the 70's when we were shooting Jackrabbits west of Blackfoot, Idaho Falls & Mud Lake. Just picture looking at the blades of grass on your lawn, the blades were Jackrabbits. The snowy fields would just be carpeted with anywhere from 500-700 Jackrabbits at a time. We were sitting on top of the haystacks & at the end of the day the snow wasn't white, it was solid red from the stack all the way back to where the sagebrush started. My daughter & oldest son probably killed 2-3 thousand Jackrabbits each, one winter using Ruger 10-22's. I used mostly single six's, 357's & 44's. Loading was the problem, you were always, always empty. Sometimes we were shooting straight down because they were eating all around the haystacks. I heard of some haystacks actually tipping over but didn't actually see it. Dick You are officially my hero - that sounds like so much fun.

Mr. Taffin, those are nice guns! I handled a pietta steel buffalo model recently, it was a nicely built gun. I almost bought it, but i have the 1860 to tune and sight in. Magnumwheelman, its a crime that you can't hunt with black powder pistols. For me,theres a fascination with the guns, and when hunting is slow i have something to admire in my hands. With conicals, the revolvers are way more effective than people believe, they are a viable hunting tool. Anyone that doesn't believe that hasnt tried it.Ive made my two longest shots on deer with them, not my 44 mags. When i first started playing with them, i modified a Lee mould to make a 185gr lfn type bullet. With 35gr Goex from my piette 1858, they punched through 8 milk jugs and left them all running water. Plenty of modern cartridges wont do that. Basically, it gives me a black powder 44-40. I doubt too many here would feel undergunned on whitetail with one.

Most all the animals I’ve shot were farm/ranch related. Armadillos and opossums with Ruger SBHs or Vaqueros using 44 Spl and .223 from a TC Contender. I’ve “put down” three horses with 44 Spl Vaqueros and two heifers with a 45 Colt Uberti. I find the Sheriff’s Models in both to be eminently qualified for ranch work. I do have a BFR in 475L/480 Ruger but it’s yet to plug anything but paper.

Before my heart troubles started, I used my 500's mostly for NC black bear, hogs, and deer loaded with a 355gr swc at 1450fps. Bison and other bovine got a 530gr lfn at 1250. I'll probably be backing off to a 45 Colt 300gr at 1000 now since I'll be limited to hunting from a stand.

Biggest I shot with a revolver was a 52 inch Alaskan bull moose. 454 Casull Biggest thing since moving to Tennessee? I put 6 holes in my new burn barrel last month with a 44 mag.

With my 44 SBH I was able to take 2 whitetail does last season, it’s also put down a beef cow.
My Kimber 45acp has taken hogs, several sick calves, 1 badger, 1 gopher, 1 beaver, and more steel and paper than I can remember.
The 2 does excited me more than anything because my folks bought me that SBH sometime back in the mid 1980’s.

The first critter I shot with a big bore was a squirrel in the top of a hickory tree. The second was a groundhog. Pretty much the only critters since then have been whitetail deer. No other big game around here.

ThunderJet, you made me smile. About 20 years ago, my Dad happened to be over when I rolled a new steel barrel out of the barn. Got the giant can opener and took the top off. Dad's giving advice.."Ya know you have to drill some holes in it so it'll burn better". So I say , put your fingers in your ears, and draw the SBH '80's vintage. 5 shots, 10 holes. Lay it down and squat and put 6th thru the bottom to drain. Then drop cut off lid in and get it to the bottom, now have double bottom with a drain hole. DONE. Dad says, how did my boy turn into such a hillbilly ? I prefer redneck, but whatever. And so, the term, Ruger cordless drill was coined, many years before cords started to disappear. The first thing shot with the 6.5 480 BSBH was a new barrel too, come to think of it. Penn 340gr, deep seated on 8grs of Unique. Oldest friend that I grew up hunting/fishing/trapping/shooting/girl chasing with stopped by a few days later and accused me of using a 12ga and slugs. Most of the deer we killed were taken with a 12ga and slugs, so a reasonable thought. He had a hard time believing anything outta a handgun could punch such holes. So the barrel got a few more right then..

We got a new 4' culvert coupling for a burn ring at camp and it needed a couple of ventilation holes. I had my new Ruger 44 Special Flattop loaded with Skeeter's load, and said "Stand back, I got this". The first shot bounced off the ring and everybody laughed. I have never been so disappointed in a gun. I still have negative feelings towards that little gun.

ALSO THICK METAL AND/OR CONCRETE CULVERTS ARE NOT GOOD CANDIDATES FOR MAKING BULLET HOLES WITH MOST REVOLVER LOADS.
