Just shot 12 rds before the rain started.
Cast Penn 100 grn WFN Bullets grouped about 1.5" at 25 yards.
Coated Cast 115 grn Missouri Bullets grouped 1.25" with 5 going sub 1". Four of these made one ragged hole.
Sights are extremely easy to see and fine tune. This will be an ideal small game hunting revolver.
MagMan, Thanks for Posting...
Note: Several have asked about work done to this gun.
Base gun is a Taylor's Tuned Pre-War Frame Peacemaker Clone in 32-20.
Barrel gap is .003" so I asked Dave to leave it as it shipped.
Barrel was dovetailed for the leaf rear sight. Custom base was fabricated to match the dovetail and exact width of my bead front sight.
Forcing cone was cut to 11° and polished for cast bullets. Barrel also received a perfectly centered target crown.
All excess writing was removed from the barrel and "Matthes Lion Hunter" was engraved before the barrel was blued.
Not really much to this build. Just a simple idea from the early days of revolver hunting.

Beautifully done and a very fitting tribute to Matthes. Truth be told, the .32-20 is a better killer than the Bee. Your Lion Hunter is an upgrade on all fronts. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Have spent the last hour trying different loads. The gun has a definite preference for heavier bullets. I'm perfectly ok with that. As I have gotten used to the sights, the 115 grn Coated Missouri Bullets shoot an obnoxiously consistent 1" at 25 yards. I'll stretch it out to 50 and 75 yards in better weather.

Fantastic! Didn't know it was a Black Powder frame, it's like a cherry on top.

Believe I have my two power level loads...
115 grn Coated FN Bullets used in both.
5.0 grn Unique 1080 fps 1"
11.0 grn 2400 1325 fps sub 1" on several groups from a steady rest.
The lower power load does shoot 1" higher than the 2400 Load. I can only assume this is caused by barrel dwell/rise time.

Welp. Guess it's time to start looking for a base gun..
This turned out completely as I expected and so much more. It's elegant yet simplistic at the same time in a purpose driven form.

I'm convinced the sight configuration isn't for quick acquisition. But, is superior to other open sights I've tried for precision shooting.
For still hunting, sniping turtles in my ponds and just plain entertainment, it'll be a hard setup to best.
Surely, it could be done cheaper by simply cutting two dovetails in the barrel. I just didn't see the reason to cut corners after taking way too long to get this one built.
I will point out that Uberti builds an Octagon Barreled Peacemaker Clone in 357 Magnum, Hmmmm....

I'm sure they'll get quicker with practice, just unfamiliar for nowI'm guessing. Are you able to use the fixed sight with the blade folded down?

was Mr. Matthes Hunting the American mountain Lion or god forbid African lions. I used to work with a guy who used dogs to tree a mountain lion then shot them with a 22 magnum. Said It worked perfectly...tj If you've got a cougar treed and you've got a .22 semi auto, you can put a pound of led in him before he even knows it's happening. Of course, I wouldn't do it but some people might. A lion in a tree isn't much of a shot.

You would probably feel differently if you were a rancher loosing livestock to them.
Or even worse, loose a kid to them. Matthes was a Government Agent dispatching problem animals.
