well another update i just did here recently
i fitted the ERH as there was a noticable gap between it and the barrel
here are pics of the final fitment
from this
to this
it will still need a little tweaking but very close for now
Next is remaking the Original Elmer Keith Grips in the pics
here are all the pics known of the gun i have been able to find
the company who sold it says the grips are
Trigger guard & back strap are brass which contain 2-pc yellow cow horn grips with Ruger black eagle medallions
i think they are incorrect after hours of comparing material out there
i am not 100% sure what they are and they could very well be Cow
they are quite thick too as u can see the bevel quite evident too
in my searching for years for great materials to use on future builds i ran across this
i wonder if it can be made to look like these grips i am trying to remake?
does anyone have any experience with it?
it is called
Dave Warther's Resin-Ivory™ Imitation ivory blanks for SAA revolver gun grips. Resin-Ivory™ is the highest quality imitation ivory we have seen, worked or handled - ever.
In SAA sets we have Resin-Ivory™ R grade grip blanks and we have Resin-Ivory+S™ "+S" grade grip blanks. The Resin-Ivory™ R grade grips have grain that is pretty and looks like real ivory. The +S grade has a more vivid grain throughout the grip and it has the Shreger lines in the end grain - hence the +S designation. The Shreger lines are those forming the herringbone pattern as seen in the end grain view of real ivory.
This material works just like real ivory with conventional tools and takes a high polish by buffing with white jewelers rouge on cloth or felt wheels. One needs only sand with 400 grit wet/dry paper and then take it to a buffing wheel. This material is also the best imitation ivory we have scrimshawed. There is no squishiness when scriming and there is no bleeding of the ink into unwanted areas as seen on other imitation ivories. It works like ivory, polishes like ivory and scrims like ivory!
i have seen people on other forums use this and say it is incredible and it looks just about like Ivory too
and very close to these grips on this gun too
they are quite thick too as u can see the bevel quite evident too
i would love for all of you to chime in
i am also looking for .250 brass thin wall escutcheons which i thought i had but do not too
they need to be identical to the ones on this gun too
Ron Wells and I are trying to figure this out
so any help will be so appreciated
thanks in advance for reading this and following along
i promise you as long as i am still alive i will try and finish this
stay safe out there
God Bless,John
