If you want to use those grips then if you go with the Powers unit you should be able to pull it off. Their gf is patterned after the Colt SAA which is real close to the Ruger XR3 the early flat tops wore.

Grip frame shape is a highly subjective matter, Keith liked to put the brass Dragoon style grip frame he talked Bill Ruger into putting on the Super Blackhawk on many of his guns. Some guys really love it, others like myself absolutely DESPISE it! I don't like the way it feels in my hand, nor the gouging of the knuckle of my middle finger the square trigger guard gives me with stout magnum loads...Therefore, it gets replaced with either a steel Old Army XR3-RED grip frame or, my personal favorite the original aluminum Ruger XR3 grip on all of my Super Blackhawk's.

well that is my thinking too Bullseye... i personally never liked the looks of the super blackhawk frames... they never seemed to fit my hands correctly... i was going to get a factory brass one and have a set of bone grips made... but i really like these grips and it would be a shame not to use them.... and i find that i really like this brass frame idea... even thought of having the aluminum one plated... but would rather keep it original ...just in case...God Bless,John

John, The No5 grip frame goes back all the way to 1928-29 when Elmer Keith married a Colt frontstrap the a Bisley backstrap. Elmer carried the No5 sixgun until the advent of the 44 Magnum. Elmer Keith called his No5 The Last Word. Here is one on a NM Flattop. This one is mine, built from scratch by Alan Harton

Sure looks like it's blue in that picture.

Seems like Fermin's #5 was carbon steel "in the white". I'm sure he'll be along to straighten us out soon!

Elmer also had an OM .41 Blackhawk with a brass SBH gripframe on it. Saw it at the EK Museum in Boise before it was all sold off.
Had the same gun at one time but was a NM with a steel gripframe....was my favorite Blackhawk....had it for 25 years foolishly sold it.... Would like to find a 1976 4 5/8" Liberty and add a brass or steel SBH gripframe as that fits my hand better than any other.
Good luck on your build...
Bob
