Hey Max, what criteria do you use to select how for forward or backward to mount your scope? Looks like your 444, you could cut the front part of the base off, or use the weigatinny mount, etc. The only criteria I use is how it feels as far as eye relief is concerned and that is where it ends up. I don't spend a lot of time on that part. I'm not going to cut the nose of the base off as I might change the optic some day and may need that portion of the base. Just don't think it's a good idea. As far as aesthetics are concerned, well, it's got a long barrel and a scope, so it's already not the prettiest one in the room. However, it's functional and I find that VERY attractive!

Compared to some wild cat cartridges, the 500 JRH is very easy to make out of 500 S&W brass. I have a little chop saw from Harbor Freight and all you do is cut it down to around 1.42" then I trim the rest of it with a case trimmer. Debur it, you're then ready to go. I did buy 100 new brass from Buffalo Bore, but I have those rat holed away. Don't let the brass thing stop you from purchasing one of these awesome beauties!
I'd love to have a 500 JRH BFR 7.5" but the brass is what stops me from getting one. Are you guys making brass or buying it from buffalo bore?

Update on my BFR 500 JRH, I'm shooting 500 Specials in it and a few times after a shot the hammer wouldn't come all the way back to cock again. I had to work it back and forth a few times to get it cock and shoot. Also the loading gate was difficult to open fully, I filled out a form on the Magnum Research website for warranty repair on Wednesday and Thursday morning they sent an email with a paid FedEx shipping label. They received it Friday, I'll keep you informed what they find and how long it takes.

Thinking about a10inch 30-30 bisley I wish they would offer it in 30 Herrett what do you guys think about that and do any of you have experience with a Bfr in 30-30?

Thinking about a10inch 30-30 bisley I wish they would offer it in 30 Herrett what do you guys think about that and do any of you have experience with a Bfr in 30-30? ***** The .30-30 proved surprisingly effective in the IHMSA Production category, which pistols could not be modified in any way, except for a trigger job with factory parts. The T/C Contender with tapered bull 10-inch barrel and 1:10 twist shot jacketed and cast very well, collecting many wins. The .30 Herrett is more efficient in the 10 inch single shot; thus, should be much closer to “efficient” in a 10-inch revolver. A handful of hard corps silhouetters play the 500 meter game with revolvers and if I were to play it, I’d want to see what the BFR .30-30 can do. Intuitively agree, the .30 Herrett should more effectively burn powder in the .45-70 length BFR cylinder. John Taffin is not impressed with .30-30 ballistics from the revolver. John’s time in silhouette goes back to some real revolver battles. Eric King did well @ 500 meters with his Sig Himmelmann Seville .375 Super Mag until the frame broke. When I suggested he try a BFR .30-30, Eric was less than effusive. Do not want to get too far out on this limb, as I haven’t tried it. Small bores with big boiler rooms produce terrific muzzle blast. A barrel/cylinder gap amplifies the effect, while degrading velocity. There is room for experiment. David Bradshaw

I shot IHMSA silhouette for years in the 80's my first match was attended by Bob Milek here in Wyoming so I know long range shooting and ballistics pretty well just looking for a new thrill so I thought I might give it a try. I miss silhouettes and competing at long range. All the best to you and thanks for replying to my question.

I have one gripe about the new Bisley BFR grips. Well maybe 2, firstly “with my jrh” I felt that the grips were too narrow across the rear of the frame. All of the recoil is absorbed threw the frame. I know that everyone is different but it seemed to me that they could have widened the grips at the rear just a bit befor they went forward so there was more than just the metal strap. I had the white grips, and maybe this was unique to my situation.
A chunk of English walnut cured this issue!
Other gripe is minor. I felt that the metal edges where all pretty sharp. Also corrected

I also had a problem with my loading gate being tough to open fully. It doesn’t have the detent feel that a guy is used to. That being said it has seamed to get easier with shooting.

... I felt that the metal edges where all pretty sharp. Also corrected .... My custom shop BFR was so sharp I was bleeding from both hands. It was a site man! A trip to Alan Harton fixed that right up.

These BFR’s are headed in the right direction especially with the addition of the .500 L to a factory lineup. This is exciting for an affordable entry into THE big bore that started this for many. The “Bisley” grip is personal preference and apparently some like it but that front sight and hammer need help although functionally sound from accounts. Time will tell but I am hopeful that they will look around the world of SA’s and see what things folks appreciate aesthetically... for now they are sure making some decisions that show they embrace change.
Sharp edges have been around BFR’s for some time and I got my own slice from one years back. I kinda appreciate the sharp edge to the eye but maybe a light blast to knock off the edges would help function.

I don't own one, but was intrigued with the idea for some time. Like you, I posed the question about case set-back, accuracy and velocity from the BFR, and some time back, someone posted their test results on those questions, from their newly acquired gun. Frankly, I was surprised that the feedback was so good, and probably would have bought one if I'd not already resolved to reduce my collection. If you do buy one, please give us your feedback. I have a good deal of 14" Contender .30-30 experience from my early IHMSA days, and have found it to be excellent in that platform.
