This is the first heeled cartridge that piques my curiosity, pretty cool!

it all started when my buddy had an idea for a collet crimp die... & these dies are working really well... I'm getting a perfect crimp, that could withstand a lot of recoil... & that crimp die is really the only thing specially needed to turn any Ruger 45 into a 475

With the bullet barely intruding on case volume, wonder how she fares against the 480/475's ? Just please remember your not using an oversized cylinder, or special alloy/heat treat, etc.. be careful ! Think TB actually can take you quite far. Far enough.

on my buddies revolver, he made a new heat treated cylinder... not larger, but unfluted... still I'd think the weakest spot has to be the stop notches on a 6 shot cylinder... not sure how the heeled bullet design would handle "real" hot rodding... but a 5 shot cylinder could be made as well... but I already have a 480 Ruger... so I look at these as "special" level guns, rather than "magnum" level... still I think 900 fps aught to be easily attainable

My first thought for the cartridge was Trail Boss, loads of fun!

I cast about 75 bullets the other night, and ran the lead hotter and put the spout right up to the sprue hole, and got lots of perfect / consistant bullets... then powder coated about 2/3 of them, 1/2 in red, and 1/2 in black... and honestly the powder coating is giving me fits with this bullet... thinking when I order my mold, that I'll need to go at least .002 smaller on both the body and the heel... that said, my buddy gave me 12 of the hard red lube bullets ( reqires a heated lubrisizer ) and those were a breeze to load... I also did some uncoated through my Lee push through sizer with Alox... thinking it'll cure hard enough... I loaded 5, 7, and 8 grains of Trailboss, which from my manuals should get me 700 to 900 fps If anyone is following along, I'm exploring the possibility, that there may be a combination of factory dies that could be used to load this cartridge, either as produced, or by swapping out some parts from other factory die sets... right now the dies are the hard part, that and the molds... but Accurate has been good about building me fine tuned dies for a very reasonable price... if things work out, this could become a very practical conversion Will let you guys know about the dies in the next week or so...

A couple more pictures... top picture is tumble lubed with Alox, ( note the dents & nicks in the bullet surface... don't know if that will really effect the accuracy or not??? ) these are both cast out of wheel weights... bottom one is that hard red lube, that requires a heater on the lubrisizer...

Been following with great interest as at one time I considered a version of the .475 Cooper and alternatively the 480 Achilles for a vaquero project

Nice ! Should be some kinda "neatest idea of the year award' for the .476WTH. I'm with you. This just make sense to me. A 6 shot .476 by a simple rebore/rebarrel. Love it. I hope it all works out and catches on. Don't see why they can't be pushed to 45LC Ruger only loads in the 30,000 psi range. Awesome.

Well... Lee is now making a 45 Colt Collet crimp die... we just ordered a couple of those, which should crimp into these modified bullet's crimp grooves, provided the .475 bullet fits into the collet...( the original 480 Achilles bullet was not designed with a crimp groove... it is something we had Accurate change when we modified the dimensions to our mold ) ... if not, the body of the die might need to be massaged a little bigger, or the slits in the collet cut wider to allow the 475 entry... either way, we're hopeful, that the crimp die could be purchased from Lee for $12.99 & used as made, or easily modified... that may make this cartridge much more practical for the average guy... that & if my loads can show that it has good accuracy potential... www.midwayusa.com/product/100074/lee-collet-style-crimp-dieI'll let you guys know where we are at with the Lee dies, next week, as they should be here later this week, or early next... and as far as shooting goes, right now I've been fighting the weather & the farmers trying to get in the field on each side of my range, to get to shoot those loads pictured above...

I just had a glorious vision of a .476WTH custom T/C Contender barrel.
Please let me know when the bullet design and bullet molds are a done deal, I'm not a reloader yet, but I will be.
If there is any chance to get some of your loaded rounds and a couple dummy rounds, I'd have MGM build a barrel for it.
Good luck guys.

Another bonus about your bullet design is unlike the 480 Ruger, with it's history of in and out of production, the .476WTH will always have 45 Colt brass available.
I'm thinking a 400ish gr. bullet moving around 1100 fps is possible as well.
