The 476 Dang Spec..? The 480 Backdoor. The 476 Minnesotan. We need Hoover back around here for help with stuff like this.

Will try again after coffee hits bottom. Maybe again later if I have a beer or three. That often fires up the imagination.

Got our newest bullet mold yesterday... buddy will try casting a few bullets... wanting to get the bullet diameter finalized before throating the cylinders... he's got the crimp dies done & is happy with them... doing a long slower taper for an expanding die, so as not to overwork the case mouths...
I'll be using my factory fluted 45 Colt cylinder in my gun... think he's making a new unfluted for his...

got correct sized bullets yesterday, out of the new mold... at least for conventional lubing...out of my buddies pot... he thinks I need to fire up mine ( what??? I've been holding out for years ) & try some of my ingots on for size... if they are the same, I may order my PC mold a couple .001's smaller yet, & with no lube grooves, to allow for PC thickness... but we are on the way to work on actual guns, now that we think we have bullets we can use

pictures will start trickling in... right now I'm liking the cartridge name of "476 Eley Magnum" here is a mock cartridge & my 45 Colt Cylinder... the cartridge with this 290 grain bullet is .050" shorter than the Ruger Cylinder with full length 45 Colt cases... both sets of loading dies are pretty much done... crimping the heel seated bullet is now a snap... cutting barrel stock in the next couple days & discussing front sight options this will be my buddies bullet mold... once I cast a few with my alloy ( yes I'm actually going to fire up my lead pot this weekend... errr maybe anyway my bullets will be with no lube grooves, & will be powder coated bullets note... lotsa smiles

Still need to come up with a name... buddy is concerned about using the Eley name... and excessive headspace on original cartridges... because of thier thinner than normal rims... how about 476 WTH, or 476 WTF The "W" in the either one could be either why, or what BTW... barrels are cut to length and machined down to proper diameters

Looking like the cartridge will be called 476 "what the heck" or insert your own colorful word (s)... like perhaps "why"... 476 WTH for short... I pulled out my lead pot tonight, from it's dark corner of the basement, where FIL used it last... almost 20 years ago...it's a Lyman #61... it was empty and dirty, with 20 years worth of dust, dirt, corrosion ... but after a lot of work, I got clean nice 630 degree lead ( checked with my new digital lead thermometer ) out of the spout before I quit for the night ( spout was pretty nasty, & stuck closed, to start with, of course after freed up, it got junk in the seat & didn't want to stop dripping... but I think it's all good now )... I should be casting my 1st bullets ever, before the week is out...BTW... got my 1st burn ( I'm now a seasoned lead melter ) tried to wipe the lead off the probe for my thermometer... dang probe stays hot long after the little residual lead I was trying to remove cools... anyway... sounds like my gun is complete, less the front sight, and a chamber stamping, & cosmetic work, like bluing the barrel... next after bullets, we'll will be stepping off the edge, into powder coating...

ordered some new Starline cases today just for the 476 WTH, & a dedicated Redding file trim die, as case length will be critical for crimping the heel seated bullets... also just ordered 8 oz of semi gloss black powder from Eastwood... will be trying the shake & bake method on my 1st batch of cast bullets, with the lube grooves, in a toaster oven & will then order a 2 cavity mold of correct size, for my alloy, with no lube grooves, & the powder coat oven they have listed on Eastwood's site
