Since we are getting closer I'm starting to think about powders & charges for the "476 WTH"... anyone here with a favorite powder for heavy bullet 45 Colt loads??? I just read this article... www.handloads.com/articles/default.asp?id=5& they were using Unique, H-110 & Lil Gun... I have all of those, was also thinking about AA #9, & 296, maybe 4227... any others to ponder??? My buddy is a huge fan of Unique, & I'm sure he'll be using that powder... I personally prefer something that meters better... I'm also thinking this heel seated bullet will take up less space in the case, than some of the heavy 45 Colt bullets ( well really, probably all of the heavy bullets used in the article listed above ) so while I will work up loads, I should be able to easily use charges listed, & possibly not have flat primers or sticky extraction where it was noted in the article... plus while the mold is supposed to cast around 290 grains, I may be a bit heavier for the newer PC design mold with no lube grooves... so I'm guessing 1100 - 1300 fps out of my 4.75" barrel might be possible with a 290-300 grain bullet, at max... I'd be more than happy if I could find something that shoots good at 1000 - 1200 fps

all that is left on my gun, ( other than the cosmetic bluing of the barrel, is to attach the ejector housing, & to throat the cylinder )... I still need to cast some bullets out of my alloy, before the cylinder gets throated ( had a freezer issue the last 2 days I've been dealing with... not a good thing, since we just put up a 500 lb hog in that freezer ) so I'm hoping to get the bullets cast this weekend... on the ejector housing, my Blackhawk is an older one, back when they attached a lug to the barrel for the screw to go into... so... we need to do a little conversion magic, & will be using a #8 screw like the 480 Super Blackhawks currently use... but the gun could be functional in a couple days, or at least as soon, as we decide a throat for the cylinder will try to get more pictures later today...

Got several pictures... will try to upload later tomorrow... going to shoot some competition tomorrow, and shoot some new factory guns... "Shooters Round Up", at a semi local gun shop, tomorrow... I could shoot machine guns if I wanted ( not much thrill there )... I cast about 30 bullets tonight ( my 1st ) things went really well... all bullets within 5 grains from start to finish... I have pictures of the gun and dies, and my 1st bullets... powder coat powder should be here early next week...
BTW... gun will be ready to shoot tomorrow... it's done before I got ammo ready

here are those pictures, & two loaded rounds... note the crimp on these cartridges... in the last picture above ( sorry, a little blurry ) is the collet that crimps the case on the heel of the bullet... my casting session went well, only to find that I need to start over... FIL's reclaimed lead has too much other stuff... my buddies wheel weights weigh 290 Grains, & cast nice square corners... mine were like 265 grains & did not fill out the corners sharp, & are much harder... as light as they are, I'll likely need to add 20-25% pure lead to the pot when using those ingots... I borrowed a couple pots worth of my buddies lead in order to get some bullets cast, & confirm the dimensions before I order the double cavity mold I'll be buying next, with no lube grooves... note the cylinder throats are nearly straight through so the bullet O.D. is the same size as the O.D. on the 45 Colt case... so the cartridges literally will go in backwards the loaded rounds are 7.5 grains of Unique with bullets that weigh 290 grains, & they are outside lubed with my buddies standard lube... so what do you think of the home made front sight

Barrel is still "in the white"... funny how the hole in the white barrel looks so much bigger than the holes in the blued cylinder

Talked to the local gun smith shop about bluing / rebluing this revolver & sounds like I'd get a better match rebluing the whole revolver, as well as getting a fresh finish... thinking my grip frame & ejector rod housing are both aluminum, so I assume they'd dura coat or some such the aluminum parts thinking High polish, maybe removing things like the 30 Carbine caliber stamping on the frame... but will have to see what they can match for the aluminum parts... also thinking about script engraving 476 WTH on the side, similar to what I did with the 257 Special... need to get some "good" bullets cast, since my powder coat will be here tomorrow or the next day...
