That half lug gun is exceptional. I am pretty sure Skeeter would be in a lather over that one.

nolongcolt: GPs are L frame size. I have a Model 69 Smith 44 so I am having a hard time putting out money that is dedicated else where for a 5" half lug. But if I didn't have the 69 I would be selling blood for that half lug.
I'm in my 70s I must be growing up!

I would like to take a minute to thank Mr. Taffin and the others the hinted a 1/2 lug was on the horizon. I was able to successfully circumvent California's draconian handgun list and get my GP. I had to convert it to single action to make it exempt from the list and then I would return it to double action once I am home. What a joke.
Anyways, I will have her home shortly and it is a beauty! I will report out when I get some trigger time.
Thanks again to all,
Matt

I just did some quick measurements on my 5" half lug GP100 44 Special.
Barrel shank, forcing cone, whatever you want to call it. My calipers are too big to get in there for a precise readin, but best I can tell it's .535 That's not a lot of meat around a .429 bullet. Does anyone have the measurement of a 696 barrel shank?
Just for comparison's sake, I measured the barrel shank on my little Rossi 720 44 Special, it's aprrox .550
My feeler gauges walked off somewhere so I didn't get to measure the barrel/cylinder gap.
The chamber throats seem to be uniform, all will accept a .430- pin gauge, none will accept a .431-

I tried to measure the thickness of my forcing cone today. I cannot get my calipers in there so I took a piece of thick paper and pressed it into the forcing cone's rim. I then used my calipers to measure from outside to outside of the resulting impression. I got around 0.035". After searching the internet I found some unverifiable measurements of Smith and Wesson's 69 (0.076") and Rossi's 720 (0.040").
To be honest I received my GP100 5" half lug on 12-29-17 it initially had a serious "catch" in the trigger in the beginning part of the pull. After 178 rounds of searching for accuracy I noted a small 3mm crack at the 6 o'clock position of the forcing cone (these were reloads ranging from 240 grain xtp at 850fps to 429244 SWCGC at 1020fps using unique, power pistol, and 2400). The barrel had been ground flat at this position by the factory seriously thinning and weakening it. The forcing cone at the bottom was less than 1/2 the thickness of the rest and before the crack it had developed a lip similar to a pour spout on a pot. In addition with standard pressure and skeeter pressure loads the pistol shot between 3" and 6" high.
I returned the revolver to Ruger and asked them to evaluate it and fix if necessary. I received the revolver back 2 weeks later with a sheet that said it had been given a new barrel, trigger, transfer bar, and had the hammer refinished. This barrel has barely any flattening on the bottom. The trigger is heavier but much smoother now. I am very pleased and to top it off it shoots to point of aim with every load I've tried. I am extremely happy with this pistol now that it has been fixed and I am now looking for a shoulder holster for it.
I will also admit that I am now loading lighter bullets to less pressure. I've now got the SNS 210grain RNFP going 900fps and it is seriously accurate. This bullet is coated and has 0.300" meplat so it should work for most anything I need.

Anyone have any accuracy reports; good or bad?
This gun might be an impulse buy for me!!
