Does anybody else study these guns when they pop up looking for ideas for new customs? Not saying I'm having tabs welded on my loading gates just yet, but a channeled grip frame could look good and I recognize this grip frame shape as a skinny Wells No 9 with the frontstrap kicked forward somewhat. www.gunbroker.com/item/922342820

If a person wanted a #5 style gun with most of the salient #5 features he better join the fray in this one. I had to talk for a long time to get Hamilton to do the guns he did for me with the #5?base pin latch. A cylinder rechamber and rebarrel gets you your 45 gun Cowpuncher!😄 Ive thought about this….. Truth is, i sold a super nice #5 in .44sp (no pin latch) that David Clements did for Fermin long ago because I really didn’t like the gripframe. So, Im out too… The Wells No 9 is your solution here. Mine is in reserve for a very special build. No 5 is a bit small for my hand. My pinky is fighting for a seat at the table. That said, the TLA it’s attached to makes the imperfect fit worthwhile.

Plain 44 mag versions start at $2500 (maybe more now, this was 1-2 years ago)
45 premium CCH premium
I would imagine $3500-4500

I’d take a Low Wall 327 in a heartbeat.

I just got my pop's M77 in 7 Mauser that dad and I shot our first deer with. Nice stock, nice bluing. Feeds slick. Tang safety is my preferred safety and made the gun workable for pop and us, who was a lefty. Not sure if it's the lightweight model, might be, but the barrel profile for sure is lighter than my M77 in 257 Roberts.
Mid-power 7mm rounds might be the most usable, versatile cartridges around. Mild recoil, great bullet selection, fairly efficient and economical. The 7x57 and 7-08 (and a step up, the 284) are at the top of the heap for hunting rounds in short and intermediate length actions.
Finding a modern glossy finish scope that looks at home on these rifles isn't the easiest. There is a seller on GB taking the new VX3HD with CDS dial and having them cerakoted in gloss black. Might be a pretty good option.

I'm not the biggest lever gun fan, but these have levers so they might count. No 3 in 357 Max Browning 1885 low wall in 45 Colt Most of my companion long guns are Contenders. I think a Lightning in 38-40 might be my next companion rifle to a Harton OM 38-40. ![](https://i.ibb.co/nnWS966/Full-Size-Render.jpg) ![](https://i.ibb.co/TgwGb7g/IMG-4660.jpg)

Hodgdon manual will have Hodgdon, Winchester, Accurate, IMR, and Winchester powders.
It won't have Alliant powders like Unique, Bullseye, Power Pistol, 2400.
I wish Alliant would publish more data.

I didn't think that one would fly under the radar.
Calculated last night the current build cost. Ended up roughly with "a lot" assuming ivory.
Is the base pin latch curved?
I would be happy with that 41 Redhawk too.

We used to toss small primer 45, now it's got value again.
In retrospect, I wish I'd laid in magnum primers rather than standard primers since they're more versatile.
SRM gets you loading small primer 308 sized cases and opens up ball powders as an option. Similarly widens powder choices in pistol cases.
I've still got plenty, but now I'll have that to take into consideration before the next shortage.

I don’t think the cold will harm it so much as moisture will.
That kind of investment in anything potentially perishable should be afforded more protection.

Bisley frame needs some remediation.
I’m kicking around the idea of aluminum on one of my hunters along with shortening the barrel. Would be a good candidate for that.

The circled areas show wear where there should be none. If the hand starts rotating the cylinder before the bolt fully drops out of the cylinder notch, it catches on this edge and causes wear. Often you will feel a hitch in the action just as the cylinder starts trying to rotate. Not a hard adjustment to make, and a cylinder refinish to make it like new is no big deal. You either make the bolt drop sooner or make the cylinder start rotating later, or a little of both until they are timed to each other properly. ![](https://i.ibb.co/ZdpqsdH/IMG-3823.jpg)

That gun has everything I like- flat top target, Bisley, ivory, CCH, and nitre bluing. It would look great in any barrel length.
It's also not very many parts away from a passable No 5 though I would never orphan those grips.
I assume the front blade on that one is skinny. Haven't measured mine, but its gotta be 1/12 width or close to it.
I wish the flat top target models were more plentiful.

Is heat shrink tubing not an option here?
