Shooting buddy gave me a Dillon SDB set up for 45ACP. Converted it to small primers yesterday. Loaded a few to shoot today. Straight up paper punching load, 3.8 Bullseye with a swaged 200 grain SWC. Loaded a few to try today. The idea is not to convert to small primers but to extend my ability to load 45 ACP with the primers in hand.

I hear ya. Now that hunting season is over I plan on changing to the ACP cylinder in my Bisley and re-sight it in. Just trying to conserve resources. Let us know how your range trip goes.

We used to toss small primer 45, now it's got value again.
In retrospect, I wish I'd laid in magnum primers rather than standard primers since they're more versatile.
SRM gets you loading small primer 308 sized cases and opens up ball powders as an option. Similarly widens powder choices in pistol cases.
I've still got plenty, but now I'll have that to take into consideration before the next shortage.

I sorted through several thousand 45ACP cases and ended up with a small pile of small primers cases. Most were FC or Blaser. I loaded them with the same charge of 700X and use them when I'll be shooting somewhere that I might not to be able to retrieve all of my empties...

Somehow I ended up with over 1K of those sp 45acp cases.

100% ignition... My gun did not like the crimp the original owner had set... I'll go back and fine tune the die settings and make more.

I've loaded both and found the small primer case with identical powder and bullet load to shoot about 12-20 fps less at 10 ft from the chrono. No discernable difference at 50 ft operating at my skill level.

Fiocchi is another brand (GFL, I think it is stamped) that uses small primers.

I wish they would have left it alone and just gone with the traditional LP pockets. I guess one good thing about it is that it forces us to sort each piece of brass, so you can weed out the military cases. In my experience the TZZ Mil cases produce extreme pressure and velocities(1300) with a standard load of 700X.

Loaded a few more to play with. Did about a 1/4 turn on the powder die (more flare) and a 1/4 turn on the crimp die (more crimp). Small primer into a big pocket is a small bother. Large primer in a small pocket is a large bother. My brass for my large primer 45 go into a 100 round box for a good visual before they go into the brass hopper on the Dillon 1050.

Small primer brass in large primer setup XL650 is a SERIOUS pain in the tail. I agree.

...The idea is not to convert to small primers but to extend my ability to load 45 ACP with the primers in hand. I stumbled upon 18 large-pistol-primer 357 cases several years ago and have been on the lookout for more ever since.
Same idea - be able to shoot something regardless of what components (especially primers) you have left.
I wouldn't mind having 500 LPP 357s in my stash, and another 250 "30 American" cases (30/30 w/SRP holes in the back) for the sake of versatility. I've narrowed my selection of calibers and arms very carefully with just this type of thing in mind. The 222, 223 and 30/30 use a wide range of powers with a lot of overlap between them.
