Well, the only thing I can think of cooler than the 7.5" New Service 44 Russian and Special Target revolver I am holding here is the man I am sitting next to!

Well, the only thing I can think of cooler than the 7.5" New Service 44 Russian and Special Target revolver I am holding here is the man I am sitting next to! I have to agree that Mike is one hell of a nice guy, a finer man would be hard to find. I lusted for a few others in Mike's collection, that pair of 2nd generation New Frontiers in 44sp, wow! His collection of 5 screw Smith 44 mags, and, and... There are so many fine guns over here at this and other forum where would I start? Lets see Fermin's #5, Ross Seyfried's #13, WildWills Clements 45 colt he just got, Boge's 500 Linebaugh Bisley Vaquero, King6's 41 mag Bowen #5, Fermin's old model Bisley 44mag, King6's 414 Super Mag, Zeus's Smith 41 mag (a 58?), Boge's Skeeter gun, Sixshot's 480 Ruger, and so many I cant think of. I have been fortunate to shoot and handle a few of these guns and they never disappoint. I look forwards to seeing what pops up here in the next few month/years, it is really inspiring to me.

So many amazing guns, so little space on these dang computers! While it would be tough to pick one or two favorites I think my answer would have to be two fold and it would involve men, not a particular gun. 8 years ago while recovering from my first shoulder surgery I read Hamilton Bowen's book on the custom revolver for the first time. That book and the wonderful color plates lit a small flame for a custom revolver. Two men fanned that flame into the wonder past time it has become for me. One is John Taffin and his wonderful books with their endless pictures of historical and custom six guns. The second person is Fermin Garza, aka 2 Dogs. He and JT have always been my two custom revolver hero's. From Fermin's Harton #5 in SS to JT's SS4 gun, many of the ideas for projects I have undertaken can find their roots in the artistry and creativity of these to men. It is also thanks to these two men that I have had the privilege to become acquainted with the fine gentlemen that perform such wonders in steel.

There is only one gun I have lusted for and it started somewhere around age 6. My Great Grand Father's 1955 nickel plated flattop. I don't know why but I knew I would have to have it even at that early age. Long before I read any of Elmer's stuff or JT's fine articles I new I was going to be single action lover. Must have been in the genes. My Great Grand Dad was a gunsmith all his life and also a clock maker. I look at all these great guns on this site and others but I don't suffer any lust. I am happy for the people who are able to get them and I really enjoy seeing them all. I sent Grand Pop's off to Hamilton Bowen and had my quest gun built. Then to Roy for a set of grips. It took 50 years to finally get what I wanted so just call me a happy camper.

Also, Boxhead's drift-sighted Harton 44 Special makes my dobber quiver!) I would be proud to own any of them, but I have to agree with Boge

Well, I feel slighted now... I figured the Dawgs would come post some pictures for me. Guess I'll do it myself tonight! I'm not one to covet, but those are gorgeous.

I can say I don't really covet other's guns. I have my own meager collection that I am quite happy with.
While I don't covet those guns, they become an inspiration for my next build.
Oh wait, there is a certain USFA Bisley Target. Dang, I sinned already.

The view of the Dawg's pair is just the gravy.. The real meat is being built like a Clements' gun.

Boge I would have to say you have more than a "modest collection". I would love to see a pic of Boxheads 44 again. Can't be just one. I would have to say Fermin's #5 is certianly at the top. I still regret not doing one. He and I had a phone discussion way back about building something on those frames that Alan had. He did, I came close to but, oh well, another bad decision on my part. Another would be Craig's Stroh Flattop. Just clean, just right. It always makes me look, over and over. Clearly one of the originals. Here's my little Harton toy again. Started 9 years ago and finally finished this year with a set of his grips.

I agree on Boxhead's Harton gun with the Single Six style topstrap. IMHO, that is an extremely elegant and tasteful conversion. Another would be Craig's Stroh Flattop. Just clean, just right. It always makes me look, over and over. Clearly one of the originals. Thank you! Here's a little group shot.

There have been any number of beautiful guns posted on this forum. A few that are different enough from any I currently own are the stainless octagon 5 shot bisleys, and the anaconda barreled redhawks. I imagine I will also own a OM ruger based #5 one of these days. I talked to Bowen long before he built his first #5 and discussed building one on a welded up colt new frontier. 18 years ago, even with a prototype discount, I was quoted $5000. I imagine with Power parts, Harton would come in below that figure today.

Nuff Said.... Indeed, brother! That is the most amazingly-crafted thing I have ever laid my hands upon. It is impossible to put down, just everywhere you look, the lines, the tolerances, the CRAFTSMANSHIP, is just breathtaking. Except the scrimshaw work...
