You will HAVE to take a small fine file and some emery cloth to the outside eges of that friggin trigger guard. Round that thing off before you even fire the first shot!!! TRUST ME!! + 1 ABSOLUTELY!! I have a permanent divot between my first and second knuckle on my trigger finger from extended load development sessions with mine.

I was indifferent about my 475 as well, but after a few mods it is growing on me!

CRAP. Just buggered the rear sight screw trying to unfreeze it (seemed like it was cross threaded, but it was just frozen).
And the hits just keep on coming....
side note....I think it's funny how the rear sight still has the Ruger emblem on it.

Hammer just take some deep breaths buddy, Sounds like your luck is much like mine. I know it will not make you happy but call MRI Monday with ALL of your issues, including the sight screw, without a doubt they will send you a mail tag, send it back and let them clean it up. I guarantee you that they are the easiest company to get along with that you will ever encounter and their turnaround times are FAST!!! I will also guarantee you without a doubt that unless you have a high dollar custom that JRH will probably be the sweetest, smoothest and most accurate revolver you have ever owned. And for the record I own 32 Rugers and am waiting for just my 2nd BFR.

You should also try some SR 4759. I'm putting 23g under a 450g. Also, Montana Bullet Works has a ton of different weight 50 cal bullets for cheap. Like $30 for 100 440g. Good quality too.

I have tried 5 different powders thru mine, My bullets are 400 gr HP's and 450 gr FP's both are home cast. The BEST if not only powders for this critter are H-110 and WW231.

Just finished loading eleven (Ooooooh, high volume loader!) rounds with the loaner brass and bullets from Axehandle. Well, I guess the bullets aren't really "loaners", unless Stan wants me fishing them out of the berm....
They are 350 grain Hornady XTPs, sitting on top of 31 grains of H110. I got this load from a post by our own Ken O'Neill. Yes it is 1 grain below recommended starting load, but Ken says they work, and I trust him. And I only had 11 XTPs.
Axe also gave me some 400 grain jacketed soft nose bullets, but I don't really see any load data for those. Only load data for 400 grainers is for lead.
Dmize, I did take a deep breath. It helped. I was getting wound around the axle there a bit, but I think I've calmed down now. I'll call MRI next week, but weather permitting, I'm gonna shoot it tomorrow. ;D
What are you fellers using to mount a red dot or scope on this bad boy? Does MRI make a BFR specific Weaver base that screws into the top strap? I've got a 1" Ultradot coming in next week, and I'm thinking about putting it on this gun. Which rings will hold up to the recoil?

Hammerdown, you should have got the scope rail in the box with your gun. If you didn't, I'm sure MRI will send you one.

Woodwright, THANK YOU!
It was underneath the padlock in the foam case. I didn't even think to pull the lock out and check under there.
It even has the mounting screws! Which I'm sure I'll bugger...
There's a taller front sight in here as well.

I agree. 296 (or H110) is your friend! 231 is perfect for mild loads. Not much else necessary to play with as far as I am concerned.

There's a taller front sight in here as well. Glad you found it! I used the BFR base with ULtradot rings (3 of them), and never experienced any issues with it. Here it is with only two rings.

Put a whopping 11 rounds through the gun today, between rain showers. Load was a 350 XTP over 31 grains of H110. I shot about 8 rounds, all offhand at a target 25 yards away. The first 5 shots were about a foot and a half above my aim point (the bottom blue square in the picture below), with the rear sight most of the way down. This was with the short front sight the gun had on it from the factory (why they even bother putting that thing on, I don't know). I swapped out to the taller front sight, and shot three more, this time with shots hitting about 2" to 2.5" below point of aim, and several inches left. First group, the two flyers on the right were my first two shots. I probably had my eyes closed for the first one . And I was also wrenching down on the gun probably way too hard. Once I adjusted my grip and calmed down, the rest of the shots all lined up nicely. Again, this was offhand, modified Weaver, barrel swaying in the breeze... Last three shots after the front sight change, offhand. POA was the blue square on the right. And here's some video I took of Steve (leftysrh) shooting a few rounds. Nice muzzle flash! (He mentioned that the rubber grips were ripping at his hands, which is why he's shaking them in the video. I used a glove, so I didn't experience this.)
