50 cal anything is expensive to shoot, even if you cast your own. Heck, my 100 round sessions of 525 grain 500 Max set me back $62.00 in bullets alone. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Heck the 475 can get that way. It hurt my heart to send 400+ grains of my lead into the dirt, so I am having a snail trap built. I was going to come up with some scrap to build it, but I decided to buy it from a local machine shop. The owner wanted to take a stab at making it so I am going to let him.

This is not at a public range, I take it?

Im lucky, my shooting range is at home, I set it up that most all bullets from point blank to 100 yards go into the same general spot. The 200,300,400 and 500 yard gets a bit more tricky, but those are mostly jacketed rifle bullets anyway.

Man, I'd like to be able to shoot off my back porch. Then I talk to my friend here at work with the 40 acres he sometimes lets me shoot on, and he talks about how it's a year round struggle to keep the brush beat back and under control around the 4-wheeler tracks and fence line, keep the grass cut, keep the fish healthy in the ponds, mend the fences, cut hay, etc. Then I'm not as enthused about it

Been doing it since I was about 10 so I dont notice it. On the flip side I am so anti social it frightens my wife, not mean or hateful mind you, just dont like being around people, and traffic and noise and constant crap in town so for me its worth it.

Well, picked up the gun from the FFL this afternoon, and my first impression is... Meh. First off, this is not the 5.5" gun advertised and displayed on the website. This one has a 7.5" barrel. I'm not totally put off by this, but at the same time, it's not what I ordered. Fit and finish is nothing special. My Bisley Hunter was finished better, in my opinion. The action is gritty and tight, and looking at internals, it looks no different than any of the $400 bone stock Rugers I've taken apart. Trigger pull is 4.25 lbs. average. No real creep to speak of, but it still feels like a typical transfer bar Ruger trigger break. The loading gate is tough to open. The entire gun was bone dry when I got it, and I've dribbled a little oil in some places, but the loading gate still wants to fight. Lubrication did not improve the rest of the action either. The free spin cylinder is nice. HEY RUGER, please do this on all your large frame Blackhawks from the factory. The rubber grip actually feels pretty good to me. It's not nearly as hand filling as I thought it would be, I was a little worried it would be too much. With a thin glove on, it should be perfect. Ugly as sin, but hey, it has a utilitarian charm about it. Have not shot it yet, hope to do that tomorrow if I can get my other press and dies set up this evening. It's definitely going back to Magnum Research next week, though. Good LORD there's some big holes in this thing.

I like that snail trap design, just need some dimensions and I can take off and go wild!

What do you plan on having done by Magnum Research?

They need to do some polishing or filing on whatever is causing the loading gate to be so hard to open, I'd really like them to work on the trigger, and take some of the scuffs and scratches out of the finish (it's wrapped in plastic and foam, how do those get there???), the grip frame fit on the left side is not great, and put the barrel length on it that it's supposed to have.

You will HAVE to take a small fine file and some emery cloth to the outside eges of that friggin trigger guard. Round that thing off before you even fire the first shot!!! TRUST ME!!
