I killed one with a 4 3/4" Uberti Cattleman .45 Colt a few years back. It was loaded with a 250g Hornady XTP pushed by 17.5g of 2400 going around 950fps, I'd guess. Never have chronographed the load. The bullet passed through the hogs neck/spine and it dropped instantly. Hog was bout 200 pounds in weight, and it was running through a wheat pasture. I was leaning out of the passenger window of a pickup truck chasing this bunch of hogs, the distance was about 10 yards away at the time of the shot. It did the job that time! I now use a 5 1/2" Blackhawk loaded a bit hotter for field carry when hunting. Still use the 250g XTP but have begun casting a 300g FN bullet with a gas check. I'll be using that for whacking hogs when I get a load worked up.

Shot this boar with a .45 Colt about a month ago. 335 grain WLN tight behind the shoulder, and down he went.

Not a boar and not the colt but a 255 grain keith at 950fps from my 1911 will punch clean through a nice sized black bear and any deer it comes across for that matter. I also completely agree with whitworth that 2 holes are better than one... 5" 1911? What's yer recipe? How's it run? Have to tweak spring rates at all? I'd love to take a deer with one of my 1911s...

I'm hoping to drop a hog this season with my Bisley Hunter in .45 colt usinf a 330gr LFN solid pushed to 1250fps. No doubt a 255gr @ 1000fps load will do the job if youy do yours.

But thats why they call it hunting.

Texas hogs are largely nocturnal till it starts cooling off, which won't likely be till Oct/Nov... till then you'll see sign, but no hogs, as they won't come out to feed till well after dark, and bed back down again before first light...

We hunt 'em at night in North Carolina (you just need to get a permit from the NC DNR). Too hot during the daylight hours and they are all mostly nocturnal.
