Very good article. Thanks for the link.
I read it several times, but still have a question.
The "heavy" .45 Colt loads posted in the article are meant for only the new model Blackhawks, the old model Blackhawks or both?

Chris The are much more qualified folks than me that can comment on this, but here goes: Some may disagree with me and say that old model 45 Colt Blackhawks can’t handle the 32k loads, but their cylinders are the same size as the old model SBH in 44 mag. I imagine there is some slight variation in cylinder diameter. One popular builder that I respect told me that he won’t convert a NM large frame cylinder to 45 Colt unless it is 1.730” minimum. I have a barely used maximum cylinder that is 1.725” (The several other maximum cylinders I have all measure 1.730” to 1.731”) and I had a NM 357 cylinder that was 1.725”. I’ve seen anfew OM 44 mag flattop conversions to 45 Colt that were converted by Hamilton Bowen. He seems very litigiously conscious, and I don’t think he would do that particular conversion if he thought “Ruger Only” loads were a problem. If I’m wrong, someone please set me straight.

You are correct. That said, I won’t feed my OM .45 Colt conversions a steady diet of Ruger only loads.

Are the new model Blackhawks in .45 Colt on the large frame ie. able to handle the “Ruger only” loads? I suspect they are but want to be positive.

Somehow I got confused between large frame and new/old model Blackhawks.
Thanks for the help.
