Boge: We only tease those people that we really like! It is just not worth the effort to poke fun at those who are not really good guys. Besides, here in Nevada, especially North of Las Vegas, up by the Nevada Test Range, it almost takes a minimum of a .45 Colt to drop the Jack Rabbits............ J.D. Press And according to Elmer Keith 'Jacks in Idaho required a 45-120!!!

Surprised that we have votes for the 357 Mag and no one mentioned the Maxium. Why would anyone pick the Mag over the Max? Lighter gun, handier size gun, for one thing, I suppose. Besides, if you have a Freedom Arms 353, you don't really need a Maximum.

I believe the question was between Mag and Max, not mentioning a 353 Casull correct? A Freedom Arms Model 353 is a gun, not a chambering. It simply allows one to squeeze everything out of the .357 Magnum one can. Kind of like Ruger-only loads for .45 Colt. Since the 353 uses .357 Magnum components, it seems to me to be more useful than a .357 Maximum, as .357 Magnum brass is much cheaper and easier to come by than that for the .357 Maximum. Thus, my point was germane to the comparison at hand.

Ah, Google served me wrong. Damn conspiracy.
Otherwise everything I have read for say 180 grain looks like a Mag could not compare to a Max. Understood also if someone wanted to shoot a light weight bullet the Mag would be better suited than the Max as you can not light that wick as hot.
Either way, for me, a Max makes more sense effectively shooting 38, Mags and Maxs. Also, it goes without saying, I would never trade my Seville Max for a 357 Mag, regardless of who made it. Call me stubborn, but I just like 'em.

Can the FA 353 (gun) really beat the 357max (cartridge)?

Can the FA 353 (gun) really beat the 357max (cartridge)? Read the articles. John Taffin compared them side by side.

Lump me in with the rest of the 41 freaks. No rhyme nor reason, just preference.

Taffin's testing shows the 357 in a Freedom Arms 83/353 beats out the Max with every bullet weight, including 180. I was merely asking a question of Mag vs Max in line with the discussion topic; caliber, not caliber in which gun.

Well with a buy in price of at least twice the cost of most maximums and the fact that the brass is pretty much crap after one firing. The maximum makes a lot more sense.

Not to beat a dead horse, but there is no difference in bringing up the Freedom Arms with the .357 Magnum than those who have brought up Ruger-only loads to support their choice of the .45 Colt. It is the same cartridge with different performance levels based on the platform. We could also do it with .44 Special, .32-20, .38-40, and others. Speaking of which, I hadn't thought of .32-20.... BTW - I have no issue with your choosing the .357 Max. Questions such as these are, by nature, highly personal and the answers will reflect our unique tastes, fancies, and reasoning.
