Rob (and all)... I've been CLEANSED!!!!! I just got back from spending the last 5 hours on the range and had the worst "accuracy" day with the G34 that I can ever remember (see you can jinx yourself by posting about a magical day online). HOWEVER.....I did shoot my Rodeo and my Rossi 92 in 45 Colt and had the most enjoyable time whacking targets from 50 to 200 yards with regular consistancy!!! Got the 22LR (CB caps) figured out in the 94/22 Trapper, the Ruger K77/22RS 22WMR sighted in and found a load for the Sabre Defense Varmint Upper (Likes Rem UMC 45gr JHP's the best out of everything I tried...gotta love it when your rifle prefers the cheapest stuff you can find locally!!!). Unfortunately, I didn't get around to shooting the 357 maggie. Soooo, I guess I need to change my mind, but it kills two birds with one stone as it's also the cartridge I have the most launching platforms for. The GREAT 45 COLT is the one handgun cartridge I'd have to pick!!! Ya just can't beat the pure enjoyment and feel of shooting this old classic All-American cartridge!!! Great Thread to get me out to the range to "Fix" myself!!! Thanks hammer!!! All the Best, Stump

May not be an issue in Nevada, but we have to consider an important question here in the South - how much squirrel would be left to eat if you had to hunt it with a .45 Colt?

P.S. Boge: I have lived in Tennessee and it is a great state but I still cannot understand or comprehend your selection of .22 rim fire as your caliber of choice..............Just kidding, actually .22 RF was my 9th choice...............on a list of ten, just behind a .177 caliber...........pellet gun. Leaves more for me!

45 Colt for all of the above reasons.

I'm really torn between the .45 Colt and the .22 L.R but since thin-skinned, two legged varmints are my primary concern, I'll stick with the venerable .45 Colt! John Linebaugh made a convert of me more than a dozen years ago and I can't see any reason to argue. One caliber - what a terrible premise though, blech! I figure between a matching caliber revolver and lever gun, I'd be set for whatever needs doing. As for how many of each, I'm split pretty evenly between .22s, .357s and .45s. Not a .44 in the bunch.. yet. Max. P.S. I'm really surprised no one has picked a .45 ACP given all it's merits - it can be had in auto or revolver, is remarkably accurate, is very low pressure, relatively inexpensive, commonly available, wide bullet selection and can be use on deer sized game to reasonable distance. Heck, it can even be had in a carbine sized tool (How I wish Marlin would bring back the .45 Camp Carbine... sniff)

Punkin' rollers are great fun to ding squirrels & wabbits with. They will generally ruin less meat than the hyper-velocity rimfire's, so long as RN's are used. I've loaded the .45 auto down to around 600 fps, with 200 grain SWCs, and it makes a dandy small game gun too.

Surprised that we have votes for the 357 Mag and no one mentioned the Maxium. Why would anyone pick the Mag over the Max?

Besides, here in Nevada, especially North of Las Vegas, up by the Nevada Test Range, it almost takes a minimum of a .45 Colt to drop the Jack Rabbits.............. We don't have tree squirrels but the ground squirrels are in a total different class; people don't even let their pit bulls & Rottweilers run loose when the ground squirrels and pack rats are known to be in an area!
