Well today I’ve only worked on a pan of hot cat head biscuits with thick cut bacon and fresh tomatoes! I hope that counts.
I’m waiting on pop. We are going to ride over to a hunting property to look for pig sign. If we feel real industrious we will go to another spot on the way home and pick up any we have left there from last season. Stands and feeders and such. I was outbid and I didn’t even know I was supposed to be bidding. I always paid the landowner what he asked. Another offered more and that is that.

worked on two walnut K frame sets, a walnut GP100 set, a mesquite burl N frame set, a walnut set for a RW 1860 frame, a walnut set for my security six, and did some metal work on my security six as well. was a busy and hot day. Walnut grips for a RW 1860 frame? Those sound really interesting! I think the gentleman getting them will be really pleased.

Worked on getting my Redhawk 41 shot with different loads and chrono’d. So far Sixshots 250gr LFNHP is shooting great. 1390fps, and good accuracy given my makeshift rest, 1.5” cluster at 50, will try his 250LFNGC next.

Got the mule home by 6 am then started mowing pastures and harvesting the lavender bushes. Unloaded the gun safe for the customers guns in the shop along with the generator, fuel cans and all the rest of the stuff we packed for the trip.

Working on an older Colt 4X carry handle scope. It came to me with all the adjustment knobs and eye focus rings frozen. I'm dribbling Kroil on the parts that should move 1-2 times a day so we'll see what happens. Not today, but yesterday. Got the windage moving freely but the elevation is being particularly stubborn. Also yesterday She Who Puts Up With Me and I helped her sister clean out a spare bedroom, haul stuff to Goodwill then I hung blinds in 4 windows. Today I'm not working on anything but surfing the forums and playing Xbox with my grandson. And laundry. Always the laundry...

Been busy this weekend. Finished a work belt for a friend of mine, a holster for a 3" 629 and working on some 2x2x2 ammo slides. My leather dying skills need to improve. Sometimes I can get an even shade and other time blotchy or too dark.

Started working in a trio of old BSoA sheath knives. Good looking vintage knives but have loosened up from old age and drying. Taking them apart and either adding a steel shim/spacer or epoxying all the leather and spacers together and allow the epoxy between the spacers to make up the space and then hold fast all the pieces. Since they do not use compression from a screwed pommel to keep everything tight, the epoxy method seems to work the best. Once everything dried is tomorrow I’ll buff and sand everything to bring the leather and spacers back to color. Then the sheaths will get new oil and dressing, when f8nished I should have 3 nice inexpensive decent quality sheath knives for keeping in my ranch hunting truck. I’ll try and get someone to post before and after pics.

Had a neighbor who shoots Cowboy Action and don’t reload give me a coffee canister full of 45 Colt brass that he didn’t need any longer. I’ve been working in the yard near my shop so I have had the tumbler running for 3 days. There was 317 pieces of good brass all cleaned up and the yard is getting close to looking like we wanted it! It’s going to be in the 100 degree range this next 5 days so got to work before it gets too hot. My nephew will be here on Friday to load up some for his 45 Colt so he will get some of the brass. I’ll give him some 250 grain cast bullets that I cast in 2008. Some have A-lox lube and some have LBT Blue lube. I’ll keep the powder coated ones for my gun. All he needs is something to go bang and make a hole in some target. He is new to shooting so just a light plinking load. His gun is not a Ruger, just a knock off copy and I don’t remember what he said it was. Maybe I’ll have to take the neighbor out for some ice cream some evening.

Worked on tracking down what sensors on my 5.9 Cummins needed replacing this morning. Turned out one of the trouble codes was due to a disconnected sensor that happened when my Ac was serviced the other day. One of the other sensors may have been related to a wiring connection that was bare and frayed, it’s on top of the rear axle. Ordered a new wiring connection and clipped the existing one at the fray and reconnected the wires with crimp on connectors. Will try both and see if the repaired one is fixed. When I bought this truck back in 2006, it had 52K miles on it, it now has 319k so I expect things to wear out about now. Every time I replace a part I try and do so with a lifetime warranty part, especially since I hoped it would be the last truck I ever need to buy. I’ve saved untold thousands in parts by doing so, it makes my gun fund last longer. I’ve also kept a repair or servicing log on it since I bought it, showing date and odo. reading at time of work. To date my most expensive work has been a clutch at 190k and injectors at 280k, considering the cost of new trucks, when the time comes I may just buy a new motor and rebuild the 6spd and T case, and save money and truck payments.

Tore the recently acquired 38-44 apart for a proper clean and lube. Whoever buffed the case hardening off of the hammer and trigger left the engagement area alone. Probably sending them to Bobby Tyler for re-do. Stripped the horrible finish off of the grips. I should have them done by this weekend. Brazilian rosewood smooth targets. Testing more lead free bullets.

Rebuilt my tractor mounted snow blower, new shaft, sprockets, chain and bolts. All prepped ready for winter. 10 years a good service. Then, the fun stuff, changed scopes on my FA97, in 224-32, and got it bore sighted. I’ll shoot for target alignment in the morning once it’s cool again. Been seeing lots of coyotes this year, hoping to make a few go away.

Rebuilt the brake splitter block on my MG-B now to bleed the brakes. Strained a quart of tart cherry juice....whew...I like that stuff but it's tart!! Loaded two different loads each for my Ruger Bisley in 45 Colt and two for the Buckeye Ruger in 32-20. I'll try them as soon as the remnants of Beryl head out of here. In a moment I'm going to work on the music for Celebrate Recovery on Thursday night.
