Anybody like this round anymore? Seems you do not hear anything about it, any more. I know the one I had, sure did kill good. What about the 5 shot 45. Still got the fever for one.

We like them here..... FA and Ruger versions in the safe... Most likely don't load them like the original 454... Guess I just got to old and to soft... There are a few 5 shot 45 Colt Ruger Customs in there too...

There was a thread not to long back that had a good discussion on the merits of the 5 shot 45. I think Ross Seyfried had a lot to do with diminishing the popularity of the 454.

My six shot .45's seem like they can handle most all my cast bullet lobbing needs. I have a FA 454 with a scope and batch of XTP Mags loaded up for some play this weekend or the next. I don't shoot well enough with iron sights that the extra velocity from a .454 changes the distance I'm comfortable with shooting with said iron sights. Having a scope on it gives me a reason/excuse to run them that fast.
If I was going to do a 5 shot .45, it'd be a Ruger NM mid frame flattop or an FA 97. On a Full size Ruger, if I'm doing that kind of conversion, might as well make the holes bigger, IMO

Over the years, most folks have come to the realization that with 45 caliber and bullet weight, you don't need to run 60,000 PSI to knock big animals on their ass. All that pressure does is pound the hell out of the gun and the shooter. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Hey razor....if you didn't like that hot 41 recoil...you will detest the 454 ;D . For whatever reason it is the most viciously recoiling handgun caliber I have ever handled. It twists in my hands and is, for lack of a better term, VIOLENT. This was the old FA 260grain at about Mach III....Never again
A 260 to 300gr cast .45 slug at 1100fps will do all a man really needs. More speed just recoils and flattens trajectory (insignificantly) I am with Aggie, Just get a bigger hole. No need for all that recoil and velocity. A standard 45 Ruger will do all you need. This is only my 2 cents and should be treated as such.
Remember if this was a "need " game we would all just have a rifle. If you want a 454, buy one and GAS ON IT!

Its my humble opinion that in a hand gun, velocity buys you range. Here in the woods, I have no need to shoot past 75yds.. So no need for the .454 and .460 and such. If you hunt where 125yd shots and more might be needed, then consider such steamy cartridges. Another time to consider the fast-movers is when looking over the sights at moose/buff/and bigger stuff. steve b

I haven't had the time and opportunity to load and shoot mine much but I like what I see thus far. It is different from a 44M and 45 and it might not be the only gun I owned if I only owned one, but I do like it in general.

The 454 is probably my favorite hunting caliber. It hits like a hammer and can be loaded down very easily to the 1150 fps range and is just stupid accurate. It makes the shooter look good even if he aint I tried a new load for me this year which was a 260 FA bullet at about 1900 fps from the 10" FA. VERY accurate and the recoil is not that bad but I guess that is relative to what you are used to in the end. The 300s have been my favorite hunting bullet in this gun at about 1600 fps or so. This is the handgun that gets used when something absolutely has to be taken down and I'm running short of time

The 454 help me arrive at the tight chamber (minimum spec) requirement that I now put on all my 45 bore revolvers....

I load my FA 454 with hot 45 class loads. Plenty of power for me. The FA displays pinpoint accuracy and one can pick up a precision FA 454 for the fraction of what a custom Bisley 45 would cost.

Groo here The FA 454 was the BigDaddy till others started to make guns for it... The factory loads now look like stuff we made for big frame 44's 20 some years ago. I still have data I shot in my FA's I would not go near for a ruger or tarus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
