Thanks Jeff! Just ordered 4k of the spp! Hard to pull the trigger on the lrp 5k at $549.00 at powder valley….. $110 per K just seems criminal really. Why have reloading components far outpaced everything else as far as inflation is concerned? I’m not buying the customary “supply and demand” answer anymore. I have “sales” sent to me everyday for ammo that contain LR/LP primers and the prices aren’t so far out of line to make you want to throw up, cry, or kick your dog!

I recall when small primers were as hard to find as dinosaur eggs. People were steadily looking for them. I gave a couple friends bricks of small primers to keep them going. But, nobody bothered to stock up on large primers because they were available and nobody felt the need. Today, it's flipped. Small primers are in stock some places and everybody is looking for large primers. I wonder how many are stocking up on what's available? Rule of thumbs says the tide will eventually turn. True words!! The 4k I bought from normausa this morning with free shipping was $217.00 out the door! Who knows how long it will take to go through the “stash” of spp. Living in a state where the governor can ban any and all things , unopposed at her will , means keeping a fair supply is indeed prudent!

Ordered some of the primers and a ammo can to keep the loaded rounds in. Love the price plus the free shipping is a bonus

...I’m not buying the customary “supply and demand” answer anymore...
Most people who parrot that particular benign "bit-o'-wit" have no idea what it means. If I speak up, I get accused of being paranoid or that I'm a conspiracy theorist.
It is a "general rule," or a truism, which neither explains nor describes anything other than the observation that the two are linked. That axiom does not confer justification, ethical behavior, honesty, or even that some law of nature asserts that it's beyond human control. It does not necessarily imply evil or ill intent either.
It's just a benign dictum, period.
I truly believe that prices are "artificially high" on such commodities. Does that mean the dictum doesn't stand? NOPE! It doesn't cost THAT much more to make them now than it did four years ago ($24/k for CCI) and (generally speaking) the more you make of something the cheaper it is to make it (economies of scale),...
...so really, "supply and demand" really just means that the more people want something, the more someone can get away with charging for it.
PLAIN AND SIMPLE.
I get lectured every time I bring this up. Someone will try to explain it to the idiot (me) by defending multiple tenets which I have neither violated, slighted or even mentioned and which are not strictly inclusive to or with the benign dictum.
Other people buying primers at these insane rates are the ones who are screwing us. Cant hardly blame the suppliers, because if someone is willing to pay ten cents for something, WHY would they settle for two and a half cents for it? That would be stupid - on their part.
The scary part... it seems that people who have no aversion to debt - those who have to have what they want (AND WANT IT NOW, DAMMIT!) outnumber us by quite a wide margin. Our only hope is that those people eventually get bored and find another hobby more macho than churning the backstop and showing off their "firepower."

The 2k I ordered were on my porch when I got home this evening.
Sort of wished I'd bought more, but at the same time I hope others get a chance to replenish their stock. My purchase was more of a monetary "ballot" than to pad my stash. My vote went to Norma on this issue. The others have priced themselves beyond my ability or willingness to support them.

I may just order some for the very same reason. Don’t need them, but I can cast a vote with my dollars anyway.

I don't disagree with that sentiment one bit, and it's the only thing that will ever drive prices back down.
We are though, vastly outnumbered by buyers who seem to have a lot of money or no aversion to debt. Without a crystal ball, it's hard to tell if any one of us "opting out" will have much impact and t hat has to be balanced against having something or having nothing. I've refused to pay the ransom since early 2020 myself and see Norma's move as positive and choose to support it, even as it's still twice what I think reasonable.
I HOPE that eventually the big spenders run out of money, credit or get tired of this particular pastime and find some other means of entertainment. As long as enough people pay the obscene prices, there's no reason for anyone selling to offer anything for less.

Your post makes wonder back in the revolutionary war beginning that did the patriots thing about the men that didn't have lead and powder, but had the flintlock muskets? What made this nation great was our forefathers sticking together in over whelming odds. You know how when gas went up high people tried to push that thing Don't Buy Gas On Monday. To bad we can change that to primer and not just on Monday.

True that "inflation" or inflation + gouging if that is what is going on has outpaced that of inflation. However almost everything I shoot would cost $1, $2, or $3/round so 3-4 cent primers doubling in cost to 7 cents is a moot point when handloading economics are figured in. That doesn't mean I like it but this might be minor compared to something like a decision to no longer market primers as a component. So I bought my first primers in this decade recently at my LGS: Winchester @ $75 - no shipping or hazmat. Don't see any way around it for now. Have also previously voiced an opinion that if any price fixing becomes resolved the *real* sticky inflated price in 2024 may have a floor of at least $50 anyhow.
