Took me a while to find this thread again. Been working on some pictures, and snagged this one. My Buck 192 is my favorite knife, and the Winchester 92 is my favorite gun.

These cherished items are mostly unrelated, other than they belonged to men that I hold in very high regard: My father and John Taffin. The revolver is one that Mr. Taffin used in an article or two and I am very happy to own and shoot it. The knives are my father's hunting knives that I watched him use to great effect on many elk, mostly in the mountains of Colorado. My father hunted elk in Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Colorado, he was not a handgun hunter whatsoever, he hunted with the same Remington 760 in 30-06 since before I was born. The finish on both the metal and the wood of his 760 had been worn off by the time he stopped hunting. The silver knife is a Gerber Shorty and the yellow handled knife is not marked with a manufacturer's identity, both have field dressed many, many animals. My father was not particularly pleased when I showed up at elk camp with my Ruger Blackhawk in 45 LC one year. At one point he even told me he was gonna shoot my elk if I passed up another opportunity (couldn't get into range for the shot with the revolver on that particular animal). But I will never forget the look on his face when he saw the 5 point bull that I dropped with the Ruger, it might have actually been pride. This is the Ruger and the Gerber hunting knife that my dad gave me on my 12th birthday in anticipation of hunting big game. It's accompanied me on many an outing over the years, 48 years to be exact.
