I didn’t need to see that…. I know, has me rethinking my long cylinder mid-frame project. Might need to think about a long cylinder 41 in a large frame instead. A “Long as you can shoehorn in” cylinder in a mid frame would work well. Lots of chamber wall. I took a BH 357 cylinder and rechambered it to 45 Colt and cut the OD to fit a mid frame. Just fit. John Linebaugh said when I asked what loads to use ”you’ll run out of hand before that BlackHawk runs out of chamber wall” So a long cylinder 41 would be IDEAL……. Never understood a 22 Hornet in a model 70…..too much unused gun. Same with a 357 in a Standard BlackHawk…….my feelings. Thanks for putting a new project in this Ol PeeBrain of mine. Bisley now of course……..yeah………YES. Just moved up the project list.

The .414 Razorback outperforms the .41 Magnum by a decent margin. Depending on the bullet, I'm getting 150 - 200 fps more velocity. The other nice thing is you can shoot .41 Magnum in it and use standard .41 Mag dies. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Shooters buy them, like them, and keep them. My thoughts anyway…… And to step it to a 414 RazorBack…….what’s not to like…….. Wonder how long a cylinder I could shoehorn into a mid frame………..hell…..if a 475L fits……I’m home free!!!!

I just sold a 44 magnum built on a midframe flat top that utilizes a rechambered large frame 357 cylinder. A couple of the chambers would not take a range rod, so I never shot it, and sold it to a friend who might trim back a 357 Maxximum cylinder for a full length midframe 41 magnum. I have a Bowen midframe cylinder blank that has a body length of 1.720” (it allows for recessed case heads), and seems to be the absolute max length for a midframe. It seems to me like another 0.040” length in a midframe cylinder window would allow one to use 0.430” nose length bullets without issue.

They certainly trim the frame in a SingleSix to do a five shot I learned to push the envelope by one of the best. When a 475 came back with cylinder that was .009 out of round there was a line alone that cylinder. It had slapped the frame. The cylinder will let go first. Keep in touch. I’ll be building again in November……..all projects on hold till after the move to Cody

For something a little different, I have been testing my 1860's ( Uberti's) with 45acp conversion cylinders. Set up correctly, thes guys handle the fairly high pressure round easily as well as +p rounds. Since I started the testing I had wanted the include my Dragoons ( a 1st Model and a Whitneyville - both Uberti's) which have been converted to 45C since new. Yesterday the Dragoons came along and were perfect with a new "diet" of 250gr HORNADY XTP's on top of 8grs of Tight Group. I know that's not an omg load but it's a nice step into the Ruger arena with this platform. I look at the Dragoon series as the original "long cylinder" !!!
Lots of fun!! Mike

There aren't a lot of bullets which don't fit standard .45 Colt Blackhawk cylinders. One that was too long was Beartooth's 350 gr LCMN: I shot them in the 5-shot at the top of the page. They flew fine, but really no better than bullets that do fit factory cylinders. Again, the standard Blackhawk cylinder will handle just about anything viable in the .45 Colt. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time" I use this bullet in my Gallagher long cylinder 45 colt. On deer, this is one of the killingest bullets I have ever used. There are convention designed bullets in that weight class that I have seen more velocity out of, but on deer, this bullet is sure death.

flexjr: I HAVE SEEN OCCASIONAL REFERENCES TO LONG BULLETS BEING BETTER KILLERS, WONDERING IF THE LENGTH OF THIS BULLET ADDS TO ITS LETHALITY?
