Maybe if we got Ruger or someone else to offer some new lines of single actions or double action revolvers they might make the gun rags. When the new Pythons came out, how many columns were written about them? Then they died off. Cant blame them. Nothing new has come out lately to entice the crowds; and you folks that have the secret squirrel lines to Buds or Lipseys on the latest variations offered by whatever maker aren't writing articles for gun rags. If they cant gain attention, they cant be publicly wanted and fevered over. Just think back to yourself, what was the reaction here to the swing out cylinder 22lr revolver offered recently? How fast did that conversation fade? Well, that's more of a trout line weight than a gun. Single Actions are just hard to hype up. They're boringly reliable, but not much has changed in 100 years. Alec Baldwin proved they still work...

How fast did that conversation fade? Ruger did it with the Wrangler - a cheap, entry-level single action for people who want the novelty of a Single action. And play Red Dead Redemption. They sold a shit-ton of them.

I would like to see S&W re-introduce the Model 27 .357 Magnum with 3 1/2 inch barrel in a six shot revolver and an 8 shot revolver with the internal lock as an option to everyone that doesn't live in a state that would require it.

I have had a LOT of firearms over the years. All of them had to be sold for way more pressing things at the time. Saying that; i have had an incredibley fun time picking up firearms that I have truly missed. I may not have the choices I once had but what a hunt!! My Ruger OM, my pre 64 model 94, not to mention a Sig or two. Harder to find what I want-41mag OM/45OM but I know they are out there in the barrel lengths I want.
It’s sad to see so much emphasis on plastic…but as was stated earlier…if it gets folks shooting then it is a good thing. Then it becomes a teaching moment when I meet them at the range. Proud to be a dinosaur!!

Money drives the market,, and the media follows the money.
Sadly,, too many folks want the hyped bottom feeders,, and as such,, the makers are there to make money,, so,, they build what sells. Plus,, as noted,, they can build a lot of them faster & cheaper than good revolvers.
But the concept of a new shooter,, looking for a good self defense gun,, is poorly misguided with the push towards a semi-auto.
Magazines, manual safeties, slide locks, slide racking, & most often, requiring 2 hands to operate IF A PROBLEM occurs.
When we teach new shooters,, who come for class with SD in mind,, we always prove the KISS method of a good DA revolver. Fewer controls, operates with one hand,, including the off hand, and basically simple to use,, ESPECIALLY if a person is in a direct physical contact confrontation with a thug. On the ground, off hand, fighting a thug,, get your hand on it, and you can pull the trigger w/o worry about safeties, magazines, mag releases, etc. Plus,, if in a pocket, or purse,, it won't jam as easily as the slide on a semi.
The KISS method is our first recommendation.
Besides, a lot of new gun owners will NOT become motor skill memory friendly with a firearm by a LOT of serious practice.

well these new 7 round compact 9's are slim... my 45 snubbie is about as small... maybe smaller in 2 of the dimensions... however the 6 round cylinder is probably twice as thick as a compact single stack "9" then there is the weight of a stainless gun, verses a plastic "9" with minimal metal... & of course the weight of the ammo... 6 rounds of 45 Colt with 250 grain Matt's wad-cutters verses 7 rounds of maybe 115 grain hollow points
now if we start talking a compact single stack "Super 30" we maybe get 8 rounds, & weigh a little less... trouble is... these smaller / lighter rely on bullet performance, & often, IMO, there are too many variables to guarantee performance... my 250 grain wad-cutters have proven predictable through a wide variety of conditions...
been tempted by the plastic single stack, but with a proper holster & a good gun belt... I think I'll keep my 45 Snubbie in use for a while yet... ( just call me T-Rex )

In many ways it is a sign of self responsibility...
Most forum members would agree that there is almost a daily increase in the need to be armed.
So, in that context, self defense guns become a necessity and single actions are relegated to an excursion.
It's not the direction I would like to see the world go. Nor, is it the direction I want to see the industry go. But, reality rarely gives a rat's rectum what we want.
At least for now, we're still armed. I'd rather have a gun I didn't care for than a stick...

OK, I'm going to modify my original answer that we are "ahead of the curve," because there's no getting around it that ere are effectively "dinosaurs," though not actual fossils,... yet. Arthur Conan Doyle, among others, wrote a book about a lost land where dinosaurs existed contemporaneously with the writing thereof - fiction, of course, but the idea of modern humans and dinosaurs both alive at the same time/same place.
Yeas, we are "dinosaurs," even those younger among us, but we living dinosaurs are definitely "ahead of the curve."
We're STILL ahead of the curve. SAs were pretty cheap for a long time, and I feel badly for those who seek to resurrect them after they start to realize that they are just positively COOL and incredibly useful. They're gonna pay a premium for such a "boutique" item in the future.

101-My LGS has a 3 screw 30 carbine in for consignment. If you would like, I can find out the particulars and send them to you. The asking $$ is right at$1099. It is laying right next to a couple of Bearcats I’m interested in.

Last OM I bought was a bit over ten years ago - a 357 for a bit over $200, and I felt the price quite steep and decided OMs had moved out of my league. That was the last one for me. The one just prior (by months) was an OM 45 Colt, for which I paid $300. Both "users," but by no means abused. The 45 Colt was worth the premium, as they were much harder to find and I really wanted one.

Maybe if it hasn't sold in a couple months...
