Recessed rims can avoid springing the loading gate if you don't keep an empty under it when shooting big recoil. Metal fatigue can add up quickly

Mr. Linebaugh doesn't like recessed rims because you can't see if it's loaded easily, but he does recommend keeping brass under the loading gate at all times when shooting

But would reduce the weight of the loading gate, decreasing stress. I have a Linebaugh gun with a scalloped loading gate. It's a really nice feature independent of these concerns.

Beautiful revolvers!! As far as the 5 or 6 shot cylinder debate.... I love my 5 shot 45 but if I were to build that gun again I'd probably go with an oversize 6 shot cylinder. As I get older, I just don't like the "Rocks and dynamite" loads as much as I used too.
Thanks for posting pics!.... it reminds me I need to get my butt in gear and get another custom in the works....I've already got one of Ronnie's grip frames and a gorgeous chunk of walnut

Doesn’t lighten it enough. And Johns cut on the inside is so nice for opening the gate
