Wow just looked at those prices. Guess it's time to see about trading my knock about 1968 straight stock Marlin for something real cool like an old Remington 14, 14.5, or 141.

"I love the Marlin 45/70’s... currently don't have one... hurt my right shoulder in fall a few years back, and every time I shot a full house load in it I could not raise my arm for a week....” ---- ***** tj3006.... what is wrong with a .45-70 shooting Trapdoor-era load of 405 grain bullet @ 1,300 fps? A cast POWDER COAT 400 flat point should handle most stateside stuff pretty well, without buying a subscription to the sawbones. Addition of a 1 or 1.2-inch Kick-Eez sorbethane recoil pad would turn it into a muffin. David Bradshaw I agree David. I’m always amazed that people know a 475L with a 400 grain bullet and 1350fps will take down anything that walks, yet a 45-70 doing virtually the same is a “powder puff” barely good enough for whitetails. I load all of my 45-70’s at trapdoor level and they’ll do anything I’ll ever need. And they are fun to shoot😀. A 45-70 and 5744 powder is a marriage made in heaven. Dan

Big muddy, TRUTH, I’m in the same camp. Just because it will launch a 405gr hard cast at 1500+ or better why ? 1100-1300 will do whatever I need. My Ford truck will probably hit a 100 but never had it past 90. Nice to know the power is there but I rarely if ever need it.

How about an 1895 Marlin in 500 Linebaugh? It’s an absolute joy with mid range loads.

I love my 444s and 1895g loaded to midrange. They perform great like that. If I need more then I will break out my beater old CZ 458 Lott. If I still ain't satisfied then it's the 475ne #1. If that doesn't do it then my uncle left me his Weatherby 460! That one's always enough. But in the US, the only thick skinned native animal is the bison. We all know what the 45-70 black powder load did to the super herds.

Ya know,, if I were in a situation where shooting a 460 Weatherby or getting killed by a runaway coal train were my only two options, Im not entirely sure I wouldn't choose the coal train. LOL. That is a whole helluva lot of rifle! All in jest of course.

Looks like I sold my Guide Gun too soon. Oh well. Made a tidy profit on it & I'm okay with that.

Decided I wanted to shoot one of the Marlin .41s I have so dug the stainless 16.5" LTD out from the back of the safe. Had not hunted with it for about 12 years. Marlin only made 251 of them. While on GB last night I spotted this... www.gunbroker.com/item/888599572Someone grabbed it for the BuyNow price...it probably would have gone for more if the Seller had not put the BuyNow on it. Five years ago a friend died and I sold off his guns for the widow...he had a .357 just like mine of which Marlin made 351...it was LNIB with the Marlin letter...$3400. That is the most I have ever seen one of this series of rifles bring. You rarely see them come up for sale and they usually bring in the $2500 range...

Many years ago I had one of those Series in 44 magnum and sold it very quickly for two grand to a guy who drove down from North Florida and paid me cash. I still have a 357 that won't go anywhere and a 45-70 that looks nothing like it did from the factory

Wow, at those prices, I wonder what my old antique 1894 in .44-40 is worth? Not that I have ANY inclination to sell it.... That's about as pure Marlin as you can get.

There's a Marlin 41 mag for sale here locally for $1,400. I just can't bring myself to pay anywhere close to that for a Marlin lever gun (but I sold my 45-70 Guide Gun about 10 years ago for $450)

For a 41 magnum I would probably pay the 1400.
