I agree that it would be awesome if Ruger would do a 500 Marlin small frame lever gun.

Alright, did you have to send that one down the road to the owner or did you take it to the house?

I will be test riding it first, then sending it down the road.
If I have one for myself it'll be a 480

I trust they will. I hope for a Marlin 1894, 20" full octagon barrel and magazine tube chambered in 480 Ruger!

Bought a new Remlin SBL this year for $900. Today on gunbrokers there is a used one with 75 rounds of ammo and the bid on it is currently $2025!

Wow ! that JRH is very very cool, I love the Marlin 45/70s But I currently don't have one, I hurt my right shoulder in fall a few years back, and every time I shot a full house load in it I could not raise my arm for a week. But when the Ruger Version comes out I just might try again. I realize now I could back off from 2000, fps probably to 1850, and the thing would still flatten any animal I hit well just fine. I shot the 350grain Hornady flat points, with a 1X4 Leopold, and could get 1.25 at 100 yards off a bench, But I don't think I would shoot it from a bench anymore. Not with modern loads. I have a Remlin 44 mag, It shoots well but could feed better. I does great with XTPs but not so well with cast bullets...

tj3006.... what is wrong with a .45-70 shooting Trapdoor-era load of 405 grain bullet @ 1,300 fps? A cast POWDER COAT 400 flat point should handle most stateside stuff pretty well, without buying a subscription to the sawbones. Addition of a 1 or 1.2-inch Kick-Eez sorbethane recoil pad would turn it into a muffin. David Bradshaw

My 1895 SS groups very well with 400 gr cast bullets and 24 gr of Alliant 2400. Very soft shooting especially with the Decelerator pad I installed some years back. I definately wouldn't want to stand in front of this load. It allows one to enjoy shooting this gun again if recoil becomes an issue. This loads runs 1300-1350 fps.

Hey! x101airborn, You don't have to suffer with that front sight that is too short. I had a Marlin model 1894 44 magnum that shot 12" high. I called Marlin and they sent me a new front sight. When I measured it, it was the same as the sight on the gun. So I looked at Williams front sights. I could not decide which would be the correct height so I got the tallest one they had. It was only fifteen dollars so I figured I could gamble. After installation it shot 12" low. Prefect, I measured the factory sight height and the Williams height. I subtracted the factory height from the Williams height. I divided that number by two. I added that number to the factory height number and looked in the Williams front sight chart and sure enough there was a sight that height. Another fifteen dollars and I had a sight. It shot to point of aim on the vertical plain. Not very creative but not very expensive either.
