I have been carrying a Buck 110 from there Custom shop for over a year now. As much as I like this Knife, I have grown tired of it never holding a sharp edge for more than a few minutes of use. I figure most of you Guy's also carry a knife daily and I would like to here some suggestions on a "Better" knife than the Buck 110. Not to disparage the 110 as it is a true Classic, loved by many. Budget ? Around $150.00 max.

I thought I was the only one! I carry a Klein Tools cable sheathing cutter. 20.00 on Amazon, blades are replaceable, blades hold a great edge when sharpened on a DMT diamond stone, lock back design and a great handle to hold on to. Then on my belt I carry a large two blade Uncle Henry folder. One blade for cutting me and meat, one blade for castrating cattle. I have gone through over 30 calves in a sitting and the knife holds its edge well. I understand the OP is not disparaging the 110 (and a true classic it is) but something happened to Buck knife steel somewhere in the 90's that it is absolutely a different blade steel than the pre-90's buck blades. I have two from before and only one after. They absolutely did change something around that time. The post 90's are serviceable but probably better to curl in your hand and hit something with than hold an edge. Hi. My name is Trey and I am a knife snob.

SEVERAL YEARS AGO I WAS CONDUCTING A MEDIATION. THE PLAINTIFF WAS IN HIS SIXTIES AND HAD GROWN UP AND COWBOY'ed ON THE KING RANCH IN HIS YOUNGER DAYS. I ASKED HIM ABOUT THE GUNS THEY CARRIED AND HE SAID THEY DIDN'T, REACHED IN HIS POCKET AND PULLED OUT A CASE TRAPPER AND SAID THAT HE CARRIED IT AND A ROPE WHEN COWBOYing. THAT KNIFE WAS ABOUT 50 YEARS OLD AND IT WAS AN EDC KNIFE. I STUDIED UP ON THE TRAPPERS, WHICH WERE POPULAR WITH TRAPPERS AND COWBOYS, WHO USE THE SPEY BLADE TO CASTARATE CALVES. I HAD A FEW TRAPPERS BUT NONE HAD THE CLASSIC SPEY BLADE LOOK LIKE A CASE SO I BOUGHT A STAG HANDLED CASE TRAPPER AND IT HAS BEEN MY EDC KNIFE WHEN AFIELD AND ON WEEKENDS. I USE THE POINTED BLADE FOR MOST CHORES AND SAVE THE SPEY BLADE FOR THE DINNER TABLE. ON MY BUCKET LIST IS TO USE THE SPEY BLADE ON A CALF.

I too do the two knife thing. A Moore Maker Trapper for GP use, and an old American Made Old Timer Single blade for the eating knife. (Down to my last functional American made old timer - I am gonna miss 'em)

Can you tell us more about your typical use? Buck 110 so assuming probably not an office. The Benchmade 940-2 & 943 are very highly recommended in many circles and you can find them around your price point if you shop around or consider used. www.benchmade.com/940-943-family.html

+1 Benchmade. The founder recently passed. I certainly hate to hear that. Benchmade has a reputation for quality few will ever attain. Do you (or anyone else) know that Benchmade will sharpen and service your knife for free for the life of the knife? I brought my Father an automatic opening Benchmade that I got in Kosovo. He is still carrying it after 25 years. It looks like he has been carrying it that long but I guarantee you he will want to be buried with it.

Cutting open a cardboard box and similar tasks around the home. I work in Construction but use a Utility knife a lot at work. I also use the Buck when Hunting to clean a Rabbit or maybe even a Deer etc. I just want a knife I can sharpen and have it stay sharp through 10 varied uses that are not even extreme.

I have been carrying 2 for the past few months. A Case 3 blade in my pocket and a Bradford Guardian3 on my belt. Obviously the Case is a great knife. It’s a Ruger model, with a Ruger emblem in the handle. The Bradford is a great knife to. It holds an edge better than anything I’ve owned yet.
